Cauldron is a low-population world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in size.
- This world has yet to take off economically or otherwise and the population remains low for reasons largely unknown.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Vestus Subsector of Reft Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
Description (Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Cauldron is a Big World between 13,600km and 15,200km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1G and 1.3G. The horizon will appear about 5.4km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Cauldron has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Cauldron has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Topography and Geography[edit]
Cauldron is a large, wet world, about 80% covered in seas and with a dense atmosphere. This permits lush vegetation and a well developed ecosphere which includes a number of large predators.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Agriculture is easy in the planet's temperate lands, with multiple harvests possible in the same year provided that crops are rotated and land is left fallow from time to time. Life is thus fairly easy for the 400 or so residents, of whom the vast majority dwell in a single village. The remainder are mainly hunters and trappers who ply their trade in the wilderness surrounding the settled area.
Most of Cauldron is unexplored. There are rumours of raider starships operating out of hidden bases in the outback and of lost Ancients sites. More credible is the persistent story that a population of Vilani made their way to Cauldron in the last years of the First Imperium and built a settlement somewhere suitably inaccessible.
Cauldron is popular for safaris and big game hunting.
World Starport[edit]
Cauldron has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Cauldron has population of 400 sophonts (hundreds).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without moderate outside assistance. This may represent a large transient population such as the crew of a fleet of starships, the dwindling remnants of a dying colony, a construction team building a new colony, or an outpost that could evolve into a colony.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Cauldron possesses a Technology Level of TL–4.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone and telegraphs, widespread printing.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Trains and early automobiles.
- Water: Clippers and steam ships.
- Air: Dirigibles, balloons, very basic rockets.
World Government (G)[edit]
Cauldron is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to draft the policies voted upon. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by the voting population.
Cauldron's government is easily categorised as a participating democracy, but in practice the setup is quite complex, as the opinions of different individuals carry more or less weight depending on the subject matter. There are few actual laws, and little in the way of formal legal process.
World Law (L)[edit]
Cauldron has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Portable energy weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
- There is little need for a formal legal process. Potential criminals tend to be discouraged at an early age by fairly mild punishments agreed upon by the community, and by the stigma attached to being called to account. Serious offenders are likely to be driven out of town.
