Carmello is a pre-agricultural and nonindustrial world lacking adequate development for its economy to become prosperous.

  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Alpha Subsector of Theta Borealis Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Carmello has a solitary primary star.

  • It is an unstable yellow giant named Ransell

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.

  • It lies within the zone's warmer inner H+ region
  • It receives higher levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Carmello is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Carmello has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Carmello has 65-75% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Satellites:[edit]

Carmello retains two small vacuum moons.

  • The worlds orbit once every few weeks.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

  • Locally, detailed maps may be available.
  • Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
  • Detailed survey data commands premium prices.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Primitive native life. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Carmello is a former outer system ice world that warmed when its star evolved from a main sequence into a giant.

  • The world likely had primitive sub-ice native life prior to its warming.

The local population are supporters of the trade protection agreement known unofficially as "the protectorate". Coordinating largely remotely, these xenophobic societies mistrust "alien" goods, and are unfriendly (or perhaps more unfriendly) to non-protectorate members offering trade.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Carmello has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Demographics (P)[edit]

Carmello has a population of 60,000

Urbanization[edit]

A few large urban centers are surrounded by smaller satellite communities.

  • The population are concentrated into a single relatively densely populated region.
  • Much of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Carmello possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.

World Government (G)[edit]

Carmello has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. This is a colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.

World Military[edit]

No information yet available.

World Law (L)[edit]

Carmello has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 6 (few)
  • Labor: 3 (thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 1 (extremely limited)
  • Efficiency: -5 (extremely poor)

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: -2 (very unimportant)

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 1 (monolithic)
  • Acceptance: 2 (very xenophobic)
  • Strangeness: 2 (typical)
  • Symbols: 2 (very concrete)
