• It is a non-aligned world located in the Andwella Subsector of Vanguard Reaches Sector.
• This is the protected homeworld of the Thonane sophont species.
• This is a cold world with an overall climate that is at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)

Refuelling on Balchik itself is banned by the Council of Worlds Agreement that defines the Tellerian Cluster, though this is hard to enforce.

Balchik has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

History & Background (Dossier)

An IISS expedition to the Tellerian Cluster in 379 surveyed Balchik. A landing party was attacked by a Thonane band that killed two scouts with bronze-tipped spears before taking casualties and retreating. The IISS expedition withdrew to conduct remote observations.

A follow-on expedition in 402 further documented Thonane culture.

Balchik does not have a starport. The Class X Starport is an indication that no starport exists in the system. There are no facilities or services available, and no site marked for landing.
