The Ronnin of Ronni (Vland 1803) are a technologically competent Minor Human Race with a humanoid appearance.

Description[edit]

Due to the size of their homeworld and the thin atmosphere, the Ronnin tend to be thinner of limb but a bit barrel chested. Their ribcages have a higher percentage of cartilage compared to bone, providing enough extra flexibility that they are typically deep breathers compared to Imperial norms. While they average relatively tall at 1.8 meters, they do vary in height almost as much as the rest of Humaniti. They also vary across the typical range of Human skin tones. [1]

Despite their advancement since contact and membership in the Third Imperium, the Ronnin have retained their cultural love of nature and the beauty inherent in it. [1]

History & Background[edit]

The Ronnin claim to have lived on their world for far longer than their earliest recorded history, and they have no evidence of being transplanted by the Ancients or anyone else. Their world is just short of ideal for supporting them, with compatible food sources and breathable air. It has not been determined whether these factors or some unrecorded event in their recent past is responsible for their low numbers when first contacted. The Ronnin are in wide agreement that there have never been very many of them, but Imperial geneticists aren't so sure. [1]

The Ronnin were discovered early in the expansion of the Vilani, adding to the mystery of Humaniti spread across the stars. Largely content in their existence, the Ronnin have only rarely expressed much interest in the universe beyond their seas, though some nudging from the Vilani did lead to a slow technological revolution. They welcomed first the Vilani and later the Terrans and Third Imperium as visitors and occasional immigrants. Their easy acceptance also extended to the Vargr, which would save their world from raids and other depredations during the Long Night. [1]

The Ronnin eventually mastered spaceflight on their own during the height of the Ziru Sirka, accepting only a minimum of aid from the Vilani or their more technologically savvy neighbors or clients. Having gotten that far on their own, the Ronnin are now more open to technological assistance, but very few have been inclined to leave their home system. The few who do tend toward careers with the Scout Service, as it provides the best opportunities to take in the beauty of the wider cosmos. [1]

As is common within the region of the Ziru Sirka, the modern Ronnin have a touch of Vilani heritage in their genes. Imperial researchers posit that this may have saved them from extinction, as their numbers have been on the edge of lost sustainability for as long as the Vilani have known them. The Ronnin don't appear worried by the dire warnings of outsiders, however. [1]
