Isolation is a nonindustrial, fluidic hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- A fluid world has an oceanic geography consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Darksky Subsector of Gateway Sector.
Description
Isolation is considered to lie within the Lesser Rift.
Stellar Data
Mainworld Data
Mainworld Size (S)
Isolation is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)
Isolation has an Insidious Atmosphere which requires the use of a Hostile Environment Suit or Vacc Suit, but extreme conditions cause the corrosive effects to defeat any personal protective measures in a few hours. TL–10 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)
Isolation has 15-25% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. There may be a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.
History & Background (Dossier)
The original colony mission that settled Isolation contained dissidents from the Rule of Man, who intended to disappear. Indeed, nothing was heard from them until an Imperial exploration ship ventured into the Lesser Rift in the mid 500s. The colonists had managed to survive on Isolation, despite its insidious atmosphere and generally hostile nature.
Contact with Isolation is maintained by the occasional Scout Service vessel or navy Rift Cruiser, with occasional small cargoes arriving at the central starport. Isolation has little to export, other than minor unique items such as artwork, so trade is minimal.
World Starport (Sp)
Isolation has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)
Isolation has a population of 700,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
World Technology Level (T)
Isolation possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-2.
- There are suspicions that the life support technology used by the cities of Isolation isn't of Human origin. Not necessarily more advanced, it makes use of some components whose nature is a closely-guarded secret. Some outsiders are suspicious, wondering if the people of Isolation have anything to hide.
World Government (G)
Isolation has no central government or substantial government apparatus; an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
World Law (L)
Isolation has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.
