Obunemias Subsector is Subsector C of Astron Sector.
- It lies within Charted Space.
- It is a wild and remote wilderness.
Description / Specifications
Obunemias Subsector is an unpopulated and undeveloped wilderness, though there are indications of minor settlements having been founded on a few of its worlds. Some worlds within the region have never had an intelligent being visit them.
- The resources of the subsector remain almost entirely untapped.
Astrographic Features & Trade Routes: 1105
The following astrographic and commercial data has been determined regarding Obunemias Subsector:
- The subsector is a low stellar density region.
- The brightest star is the red giant primary of the Chtiensfabr system.
- There are multiple rift regions within the subsector.
- Its worlds comprise part of the Outer Loop, a ring of Jump-3-accessable systems that surround the Hudson Expanse.
- A coreward world within the subsector is the source of the Obunemias Signal, a mysterious radio message.
- No trade routes are noted as crossing the region.
Stellar Distribution
A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Obunemias Subsector.
- The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
- The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map).
Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.
- Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
- Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.
Rift Regions
Two rift areas lie within the subsector: the Tydere Rift and the Hudson Expanse.
- The Tydere Rift projects into the coreward edge of the subsector.
- The rimward half of the subsector is dominated by the Hudson Expanse.
- They are considered to be part of The Gulfs, an extended region of the Idella Rift.

Locally at least, a rift is an astrographic concept based on Jump Drive performance.
The highest tech level commonly encountered out this Far Along (spinward of the Third Imperium) is TL–12, though a few worlds may be more advanced.
- This level of technology allows the routine use of up to Jump-3 drives.
- Areas that cannot be crossed by Jump-3-capable vessels are denoted as rifts.

Comprehensive Second Survey data for all worlds lying within Obunemias Subsector is available.
- The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
- Other sources may differ: some elements of the data may be contradictory or incorrect.
- Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.
- Scouting missions gathering reliable, verified data can receive substantial payment.
AAB library archives contain expanded data about the following systems:
Note that some Second Survey data, though only 40 years old, may already be out of date.
- Verified updated data is constantly sought.
Subsector Summary: 1105
History & Background / Dossier
Obunemias Subsector is a remote and isolated backwater.
There may be settlements or activity along its coreward edge. These may include:
- Scattered human outposts, possibly of Imperial origin and possibly with strong religious beliefs.
- Small numbers of Zhodani explorers or scouts.
The Obunemias Signal
The Obunemias Signal is a powerful but mysterious radio message that apparently originated from a world within the coreward edge of Obunemias subsector.
- The signal was transmitted during the 980s.
- It reached the Spinward Marches by the early 1100s.
"... This is Aster Treadwell.
Greetings from the Obunemias Subsector. Our population is >0. This is a test communication
to the Imperium. We would like to let you know more about us. But first we wish to know your
demeanor towards the Great Awakening. Have those words reached the Spinward Marches yet?..."
... A communication sent from X5A1000-3...

The designated mainworld of the Shialdia system is almost certainly the source of the Signal.
- The world orbits an orange K8 V star prone to bouts of violent flare activity.
- The world has a nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere, but has a very low percentage of oxygen (less than 5%).
- Some pre-Second Survey sources show the world as having a small hydrosphere (a UWP of X5A1000-0).
- The Second Survey confirmed that by the 1060s the planet was a dry, arid world (a UWP of X5A0000-0).
- The stated Tech Level (TL–3) on the message does not generally support powerful interstellar radio communications.
- "Aster Treadwell" is a relatively common Imperial name.
The signal has not repeated since its original transmission.

The subsector is officially unpopulated.
