History & Background (Dossier)
Lagash (world)|Lagash is a high-population garden world with one small moon, located in Sol Subsector of the Solomani Rim.
- With 50 billion inhabitants, it is the most highly populated world in the subsector.
- Lagash is a member of the Imperium, the subsector capital, and contains a Naval Base.
- The current subsector duke is Mazun Tomas von Ritterburg.
Lagash was first settled during the Ziru Sirka; the Vilani established a series of smaller outposts on the worlds of the “Lagash Trace” trailing from Nusku (Solomani Rim 1822). Following the Third Interstellar War the Vilani abandoned these worlds which were then claimed by the Terran Confederation. Terran settlement began in earnest following the Eighth Interstellar War.
Toward the end of the Long Night Lagash became an important trade link with the Vegan and Vilani worlds to Coreward. Lagash welcomed the Imperium and soon became a loyal member.
Under the rule of the Solomani Confederation Lagash was considered a hotbed of radical ideology and subject to SolSec purges. As a result, following the Rim War Lagash was rewarded for its moderate views by the Imperium with an early lifting of military rule. In 1032 Lagash was made subsector capital, displacing the traditional role of Terra (Solomani Rim 1827). The current ruling noble family, the von Ritterburgs, were elevated to ducal status in 1033 after the former Duke of Sol died without heir.
The Pan-Galactic Friends of Life, an ecological activist group with chapters throughout the Imperial worlds of the Solomani Rim, was founded on Lagash in 1073.
Notes: Lagash (World) Non-canon Data: The Lagash system (E66796A-3) currently has an Amber rating. Terran Republic Marine forces are currently engaged in mop up operations on Lagash after successfully conquering those regions of that world not already held by Lagashian Gabreelists. Travel to certain areas of Lagash is still regarded as potentially dangerous due to terrorist activity.
Additional Notes
Lagash appears on the Imperium game map. Like several Imperial system on that map, the name has a Sumerian origin. Lagash was a Sumerian city northwest of the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, in what is now southeastern Iraq.
