Description (Specifications)

Kirov class Heavy Cruisers are hard-working vessels serving with the navy of the Kostov Confederate Republic, a member state of the Solomani Confederation. They are powerful vessels, featuring a spinal-mounted meson gun as heavy as those carried by much larger battleships. This version represents the recent mark II refits, paid for with a new local naval support tax.

1.	Tonnage	The Kirov class is constructed using a 72,000 Ton hull built in a Close Structure configuration. The hull is partially streamlined, giving a relatively limited atmospheric performance largely reliant on its onboard gravitic systems. It is equipped with fuel scoops. There are 55 airlocks located around the vessel. The cargo hold is accessed by large doors and has a loading ramp. The vessel has hardened ventral surfaces, allowing surface landings.
2.	Crew	649 personnel. 36 command, 216 engineering, 181 gunnery, 144 service, and 72 Marines. Staterooms: 327 double occupancy. Low berths: 0 Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems. There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel: individual sections of the hull can be sealed off. There are multiple emergency lockers.
3.	Performance	The vessel mounts a Jump-3 drive, a Maneuver-3 drive, and a Power Plant-6, giving performance of Jump-3 and 3-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 2 and an emergency agility of 3. There is fuel tankage of 25,920 Tons, sufficient for one Jump-3 and giving the power plant 4 weeks duration. The engineering section has a main control room. Ladders, gantries and platforms give access to the machinery. The jump drive utilises a lanthanum hull grid. The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4.	Electronics	Adjacent to the bridge is a computer model/6fib: the vessel has a backup computer model/6fib. The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, an advanced sensor array, and has an avionics suite. It is fitted with backup commo and sensor systems. It has a transponder unit that can be deactivaed on command. It is equipped with a sophisticated ECM package.
5.	Hardpoints	720 hardpoints. The listed battery groupings are standard configurations for the class. Alternative battery groupings may be designated for specific missions.
6.	Armament	The normal weapons fit-out for a Kirov class is: 1 Type K spinal meson gun. 6 100-Ton bays, mounting Particle Accelerators. 120 triple beam laser turrets, typically grouped into twelve batteries of 10 linked turrets 12 50-Ton bays, mounting fusion guns. 100 triple missile turrets, typically grouped into ten batteries of 10 linked turrets
7.	Defenses	The hull is plated, structurally reinforced, and built with secure bulkheads and compartments that give it a High Guard armor rating of 6. 6 100-Ton bays, mounting Repulsors. 140 triple sandcaster turrets, typically grouped into 14 batteries of 10 linked turrets. The vessel is fitted with a nuclear damper unit. The vessel is fitted with a meson screen generator.
8.	Craft	The vessel carries no dedicated subcraft. There are twenty Drop Capsule tubes and their associated loading equipment There is dedicated holding space containing an additional 52 Drop Capsules.
9.	Fuel Treatment	The Kirov class is fitted with a fuel purification plant that can refine all onboard fuel in a few hours. It is operated and maintained by the engineering crew.
10.	Cost	The basic cost of the vessel is MCr78,685.901 Architects Fee: MCr786.859
11.	Construction Time	200 weeks (46 months) as standard. Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12.	Comments	Standard cargo capacity amounts to 100 Tons. The cargo hold can be sealed and has independent life support and environmental systems.

History & Background

Kirov class Heavy Cruisers serve with the Kostov Confederate Navy of the Kostov Confederate Republic, a member state of the Solomani Confederation. Thirty examples of the Kirov class are currently in service: they are essential for local patrol and protection duties and are also occasionally called upon for Confederation service. The new configuration has more cargo space and carries two more crew. The repulsor bays are upgraded to 100 tons, and the plasma turrets have been replaced with fusion gun bays. There are plans to equip several in the class with dedicated marine support grav vehicles to ease their assault deployments and recovery.
