A Parsec, abbreviated as pc, is a considerable distance, and just one parsec is considered equivalent to 3.26  Light-years (ly).

The Kursae were a sophont people of an unknown type. According to controversial scholarship, they settled a region more than 3,000 parsecs across. It is generally believed that the Kursae did this using NAFAL technology. That would make them a major interstellar power, despite the lack of a Jump Drive.
* This makes the fact that the Kursae settled a region more than 3,000pc in diameter an incredibly significant feat. That means that this species settled a sphere nearly 9200 ly across. Being that a jump drive with a J-1 rating can travel across a subsector in 8 to 10 jumps and the average subsector contains 80 parsecs of flat (simple calculation) volume of space, this is the equivalent of roughly 260 ly in across . Extending that calculation means that the Kursae colonized a zone more than two sectors in volume. That would make them a major interstellar power, despite the lack of a FTL Jump Drive, by current political reckoning.

* It is generally believed that Kursae did this using NAFAL technology, an even more impressive feat.

The Kursae are an unknown race who settled Charted Space with slow NAFAL generation ships around -200,000.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Kursae were a sophont people of an unknown type. According to controversial scholarship, they settled a region more than 3,000 parsecs across. It is generally believed that the Kursae did this using NAFAL technology. That would make them a major interstellar power, despite the lack of a Jump Drive.

Point of Interest: The Kursae Mystery[edit]

Many dedicated scientists from the Third Imperium are actively exploring mysteries of the Kursae:

 • How did they manage to colonize such a large sphere without one of the Ancients' heirs interfering?
 • How and why did the Kursae civilization die out so quickly (by astrographic standards)?
 • If they truly colonized Charted Space, where are their remains? Why aren't we knee-deep in artifacts and ruins?

History[edit]

From an unidentified homeworld, these sophonts reached out and allegedly settled nearly five thousand worlds across half of what is now Charted Space.

Over the next thousand centuries these many worlds of the Kursae all followed a common path; a downward spiral to a comfortable low technology level where they are today.

Worlds supposedly first settled by the Kursae share a common heritage of myths about their past.

Possible Activity[edit]

The Kursae or some of their offshoots are thought to have been particularly active in Touchstone Sector. Possible artefacts of their civilizations include decayed cities on Forbidden (Touchstone 2114) and Rraerrgdzakaek (Touchstone 2211), the still-functioning space station at Greatlake (Touchstone 2529), and the evidence that Phobetor (Touchstone 2333) was significant to an alien empire, or several of them.

In neighbouring Afawahisa Sector, possible Kursae activity might be represented in ruins on Ahyulafa, a settlement preserved in vacuum at Herebedragons (Hkyewaol Subsector), and starship wreckage found in a shallow sea on Khtekhheaw (Ahesailiyhah Subsector).

Iroioah in Trojan Reach Sector also has ruins from this period, quite possibly Kursae in origin.

Astrography[edit]

This race is primarily located in the following areas:
