Mathan is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and are both non-agricultural and nonindustrial in nature.
- These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
- Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
- They require extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- The worldlets are, for the most part, unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- These worldlets have very few prospect for economic expansion.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Cleft Subsector of Harea Sector.
- It orbits the system's secondary star.
- This dangerous world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it dangerous to visitors.
- This world toils under the control of a military government with conditions reflecting that situation, including curtailed civil rights and limited freedoms.
- This world-system has a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces, which may be located on or off-world.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Mathan is a binary star system.
- The primary is a turbulent red giant named Goross.
- The secondary is an orange subdwarf.

Notes[edit]
The two stars of the Mathan system have an average separation of 230 AU and orbit a barycenter that lies between them.
- They have an orbital period around one another of 1,300 standard years.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld, an asteroid belt circling the secondary star.
- x4 secondary rocky worlds, all orbiting the secondary star.
- x2 planetoid belts. Both orbit the huge primary star.
- x4 gas giants, all orbiting the secondary star.
The system lies within the heart of the Separe Cloud.
- Energy radiating from the primary star keeps the system relatively clear of gas.
- This bubble of clear space extends out to as far as the Heliopause.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mathan is an Asteroid Belt mainworld.
It orbits within the outer system.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Mathan is an Asterioid Belt or Planetoid Belt consisting of a few very large objects with diameters of hundreds of kilometers, thousands of bodies of a few kilometers in diameter, and millions of smaller objects. Asteroid Belt is used when the belt is the mainworld of a system. Planetoid Belt refers to any non-mainworld belt within a system.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
None of the bodies within the Mathan Belt retain an atmosphere.
- The belt is in vacuum conditions, requiring the use of a Vacc Suit.
- TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
The Mathan Belt contains a few icy bodies. A few belt objects have frozen volatiles on their surfaces.
- Wilderness refueling is possible within the belt, provided a suitable icy object can be found.
- Water for the inhabitants is generally imported and is extensively recycled.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held chart of the belt exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Placeholder chart, asteroid belt.)
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
No information yet available.
World Starport[edit]
Mathan has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Technology Level[edit]
Mathan possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government[edit]
Mathan has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. This is a colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
World Military[edit]
No information yet available.
World Economy[edit]
- Resources B (Abundant)
- Labor 5 (Hundreds of thousands)
- Infrastructure 4 (Very limited)
- Efficiency +1 (Above average)
Trade Data[edit]
Importance -2 (Unimportant)
World Demographics[edit]
Population 8,000,000
World Culture[edit]
- Homogeneity 6 (Harmonious)
- Acceptance 4 (Extremely aloof)
- Strangeness 8 (Very confusing)
- Symbols 4 (Concrete)
Historical Data[edit]
- This system is rumored to contain artifacts and relics from the M'norr Republic.
