Taumotu is a nonindustrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • This die back world was once settled and developed, but the inhabitants have either died off or left, leaving behind the ruins and remnants of their civilization.
  • This is a "forbidden" world designated as a Red Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors. Everyone is forbidden to travel here.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Khulam Subsector of Diaspora Sector in the Domain of Sol.
  • This was the homeworld of the Taumotuo.

Native Sophont (NIL): Taumotuo[edit]

A vacuum-dwelling race that is now extinct.

History & Background[edit]

This world is known to have once supported a sophont species. The current Human inhabitants monopolise study of the remnants.

The Taumotuo were perfectly adapted to their small world. The preservation of their civilization by the vacuum environment makes determining its age difficult, and they left few records.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Taumotu does not have a starport. The Class X Starport is an indication that no starport exists in the system. There are no facilities or services available, and no site marked for landing.

World Population (P)[edit]

Taumotu has a population of 30,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Taumotu possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government (G)[edit]

Taumotu is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.

World Law (L)[edit]

Taumotu has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
