The rank of Rear Admiral is the one of the senior commissioned officer rank in the Imperial Navy. The Admiral is given charge of one of the Numbered Fleets in a sector, usually the reserve fleet.
History & Background (Dossier)
Task Forces and Large Task Groups of the Imperial Navy may be commanded by Rear Admirals, as well as Squadrons or Large Task Units if the role or size is such that a Commodore is not felt sufficiently senior.
Permanent appointment to this rank attracts the title of Knight[1]. i.e. Should there not be any appropriate Noble candidate, the non-Noble will be granted a knighthood as part of the promotion process.
