Basilisk, the system primary, is an intensely luminous white supergiant star that can be seen all across the greater [[Empty Stars]] region. It is a classical Cepheid Variable and like all stars of its class it displays a degree of photometric variability, varying in both diameter and temperature and producing changes in brightness with a well-defined stable period and amplitude. Basilisk pulsates over a regular 27-day period, changing both its diameter and its brightness by approximately 20%.

Basilisk retains a family of three companion stars lying at a mean separation of 5100 AU. The primary of this group is Ajagar, an orange giant star: it in turn retains an orange main sequence companion and a brown dwarf companion. Ajagar and its family of suns are orbited by three gas giant worlds. It is likely that the [[Deep Sky Program]] has also detected the presence of smaller rocky bodies within the system, though information regarding them has not been published.

Basilisk's Eye is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and barren in nature with no overt population, government, or law level.

  • These worldlets would warrant hazardous environment precautions if anyone lived here.
  • They could be populated if anyone had an inclination to do so...
  • It is an unclaimed Non-Aligned world located in the Basilisk's Eye Subsector of Tarchon Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

The Basilisk's Eye system was officially surveyed by the University of Tal Varisa Deep Sky Program.

  • The results of the survey are available as the DSP Listing, a comprehensive star catalog first published in 5550AD.
  • It lies at the heart of the Basilisk Nebula.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been remotely surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Limited data is available about the body nominated as the mainworld. All of the data has been gathered over centuries of remote observation.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

This world is an Asterioid Belt or Planetoid Belt consisting of a few very large objects with diameters of hundreds of kilometers, thousands of bodies of a few kilometers in diameter, and millions of smaller objects. Asteroid Belt is used when the belt is the mainworld of a system. Planetoid Belt refers to any non-mainworld belt within a system.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

This world has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

This world has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

Satellites:[edit]

None.
