Pharmaceuticals, Health, and Education is a major business sector of the Distant Fringe.

General Overview[edit]
This business sector represents the professional medical, academic, educational and science industry. Its members include nurses, doctors and surgeons, teachers, trainers, designers, inventors and innovators, researchers, and scientists. It includes such diverse businesses as manufacturers and suppliers of specialist equipment, organisations that offer the provision of specialist services, analytical and diagnostic services, software and data companies, and research and laboratory facilities.

Primary Activities[edit]
Healthcare provides goods and services to treat patients. It includes immediate emergency response and long-term treatments and cures. It includes fertility and GenPods. It incorporates caring for individuals with special healthcare needs, as well as cosmetic surgery and personal augmentation. Exotic medicine covers the medical requirements of sophonts of all kinds. Most organisations provide "at point" care, treating the immediate problem, while others offer a whole of life (or cradle to grave) health care. Healthcare also includes operating the necessary facilities, vehicles and equipment.

These might include anaesthetics, retrovirals, or antitoxins; OTC (Over The Counter) drugs, based on chemical compounds and freely sold. Typical examples of such products include analgesics, antihistamines and antacids. More specialised products include vaccines, based on bacteria and viruses, Anagathics, Combat drugs, Fast and Slow Drugs, and other "exotics".
