Fringian Business Sectors are key areas of industry, trade and commerce.

  • Each sector represents a particular commercial field.
  • Each details unpublished, non-canon organizations.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

General Overview: Interstellar trade is the life-blood of the Distant Fringe. Throughout the region there is a constant exchange of goods and services at a domestic level, between individual worlds and across interstellar borders.

Interstellar commerce allows for a greater competition and more competitive pricing, which (in theory at least) provides a greater variety of products at more affordable prices for the consumer. The exchange of goods also affects the economies of subsectors, sectors and the Distant Fringe as a whole, dictated by supply and demand. This makes goods and services obtainable which may not otherwise be available to consumers at a local level.

Key Areas[edit]

Commerce is considered to fall into one of ten key areas, referred to as business sectors:

Business sectors are entirely artificial – they originated as a method of defining the nature of stocks and shares on the Tal Varisa stock exchange – but they do serve as a useful method of defining the core interests of an organization. There is a huge amount of crossover between business sectors and individual organizations are frequently involved in multiple commercial activities.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Business activity has existed in the Distant Fringe since the first sophont species emerged on their respective homeworlds and began primitive bartering and trading for their needs: interstellar commerce began when humans – with jump technology – first arrived in the region. A number of corporations claim to be able to trace their origins back to 2255AD, the year that the Distant Fringe was first settled, though very few large organisations from that period survived the Dark Age.

Company Suffixes[edit]

Many organisations use traditional corporate suffixes as part of their trading name:

  • AG: Aktiengesellschaft (public limited company)
  • BV: Besloten Venootschaap (private limited liability company)
  • GmbH: Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung (company with limited liability)
  • Inc.: Incorporated
  • LLC: Limited Liability Company
  • Ltd.: Limited Liability
  • PLC: Public Limited Company
  • SA: Société Anonyme (public limited company)
  • SPRL: Société Privée à Responsabilité Limitée (private limited liability company)
  • SRO: Spolecnost S Rucenim Omezenim (limited company)

A limited liability company is a corporate structure whereby the members of the company cannot be held personally liable for the company's debts or liabilities.

A public company is one that offers a percentage of its shares for public sale.
