System Data[edit]

Xin, the mainworld, is a Large gas giant about 3.5 AU from its primary, a young G-class star.

Xin is orbited by 5 very similar, relatively large rocky moons at various distances.

There is 1 other rocky planet in this system, very similar again to the Planets of Xin, but orbiting out at 12 AU. It is named Virtue.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Xin is orbited by 5 very similar, relatively large rocky moons at various distances. Officially, they can be referenced as X1 thru X5, but are named:

  • Heart
  • Mind
  • Balance
  • Pure
  • Detached

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

They are large moons with only trace atmospheres. Most features are impact craters, which are generally large and overlapping. The Xin Institute of Planetology (XIP) continues to investigate this system's unusual features.

World Starport[edit]

Xin has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Each Planet of Xin has its own Downport.

A System Highport sits in geosynchronous orbit of the Xin giant on its dark side, and is a required customs station for all inbound craft.

World Technology Level[edit]

Xin possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Xin is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.

These Planets of Xin have a shared, centralized system of government that acknowledges each moon as a province of the overarching Federal government.

World Law Level[edit]

Xin has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A few worlds with this law level may be a Red Zone and others will be an Amber Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors).

Xin law is, on the face of it, quite detailed and strict. Looking more closely, the strictness due to the necessities of maintaining a society on unforgiving vacuum world with borderline technologies for that task. Any law touching on airlocks and other critical infrastructure is Federal, and will be strict with harsh penalties. Financial fraud of the government including tax evasion is only slightly less so.

The standard code of law is generally in line with Law level 7, excepting weapons which remain forbidden. Non-lethal weaponry can be owned with a license and required training, physical and legal. Planetary standard laws can and do vary.

Beyond that, the government is inclined to let people do what they like socially...within designated safe residential zones; these zones have a separate, lax code of law with codes primarily against violence and theft, roughly Law Level 5, with standard weapon prohibitions as above. Residential zone laws can and do vary.

Thus, the residential zones can be quite rough and raucous. Unarmed combat training is popular, gangs exist, and recreational substances are available. To quote the ancient Terrans, "Your mileage may vary".

The Scout Service recommends caution when visiting the Xin worlds. Acquire a local lawyer for an introductory consultation, and consider renting a guide or a security detail for certain regions as advised.

World Military[edit]

The Planets of Xin Congressional Navy consists of 2 destroyer class capital ships, and approximately 10 SDCs (5 pairs, named by the sponsoring Planet for that pair).

World Economy[edit]

The civil government is the largest single employer and is responsible for maintaining life support, energy production, sanitation, public transport, education, and law enforcement. Private businesses exist outside that realm. Tax law is complex but boils down to the usual suspects: federal income, planetary income, planetary sales, and official usage fees.

Rich metal deposits exist, but are difficult to access. Local manufactories provide for most basic construction and critical basic material needs. Domed farms provide food.

Trade Data[edit]

Food, electronics imports. Metal ingot exports.

World Demographics[edit]

Humanity 98%

Other 2%

World Culture[edit]

Urbanization[edit]

"Crater Cities", domed cities and towns filling the entirities of natural craters are the most common construct on the Planets.

Early fusion competes with advanced fission for power production.
