It lies within a region of space that contains many named stars that make up the constellations visible in Terra's night skies. Since a bright giant star would be substantially brighter than any of the named constellation stars that lie within the sector, and would as a result radically alter Terra's constellations, it has been dialed back to a slightly less luminous giant star.
