The Rusalkan of Siniokean are a Minor Non-Human Race native to Fulani Sector.
- Their homeworld is located within Idella Subsector.
- Their technological competency is rated as proficient.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Rusalkan are aquatic, spending the majority of their lives within the oceans of their homeworld. As an individual ages, they seek deeper, darker, higher pressure waters to dwell within.
Physiology[edit]
Rusalkan are descended from sea floor-dwelling omnivorous hunter-gatherers. They prefer a carnivorous diet, if it can be had. They can function for extended periods on land, though older individuals tend to avoid leaving the water.
Body pattern: trilaterally symmetrical non-humanoid N-TBS-AN-LL-N. Some humans consider them to have a body shape parallel to crabs.
- They are considered to be Crustaceanoid.
The average Rusalkan is a 1.2 meter diameter domed disk from which three sets of paired legs and three equally spaced manipulator clusters emerge. The manipulators divide into three long prehensile fingers capable of delicate work. One manipulator cluster is generally larger than the other two, and while lacking the dexterity of the other two it is significantly stronger. They have three large secondary eyes on their upper surfaces and three primary eyes on long stalks emerging from their lower surfaces. The mouth is located at the center of their lower surface. A mature adult can raise itself up to a maximum height of around 2 meters on its legs, and masses around 140 kg – they are substantially larger than humans. Younger individuals are smaller, while very old individuals can reach very large sizes, growing to around a 3 meter diameter and exceeding 400 kg in weight
Rusalkan have a patterned carapace made from a dense chitinous material. The patterning is more muted in older individuals.
Psychology[edit]
The Rusalkan exhibit recognized characteristics of intelligence:
- Conceptual thought, including abstract language.
- Social structure, including social organization.
- Tool use, allowing environmental manipulation.
Rusalkan psychology is driven by factors common to many sophonts:
- Acquisition (stemming from the need to gather adequate nutrition),
- Preservation (derived from the need to continue their personal existence), and
- Perpetuation (the urge to continue the species).
Rusalkan are considered patient, insightful, and calm. They are notably long-lived, but become sedentary with age.
Demographics[edit]
The total known population equals 90 million individuals.
Native Culture[edit]
- Homogeneity: A (dicordant)
- Acceptance: 6 (aloof)
- Strangeness: 6 (very distinct)
- Symbols: A (abstract)
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Rusalkan are primarily nomadic. Older individuals generally find a preferred place and inhabit it permanently.
- The majority of the population travel in large groups between ancestral lands.
- A planet-wide network of ceremonial sites, meeting places, and markets exists.
