Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Pit Stop is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Pit Stop has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Pit Stop has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.

Mainworld Topography and Geography[edit]

Pit Stop is not as dry as it first appears. The seas are small and fairly shallow, but not very far apart. A surprisingly large amount of the planetary surface is covered by various forms of wetlands. Pit Stop is also a fairly warm world, making any venture out into the wetlands an unpleasant experience, often referred to as the 'Pit Stop Steam Bath'.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Pit Stop is an otherwise empty world which was annexed by the Imperium for use as a Scout Service base. This base has acted as a terminus and maintenance depot for express boats and courier ships, a holding area for surplus Scout vessels, a training facility, and a support base for missions along the Rift fringe and out into it.

World Starport[edit]

Pit Stop has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Pit Stop has a population of 3,000 sophonts (thousands).

  • This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.

The permanent population of a world like this is actually quite difficult to assess, since it doesn't include personnel assigned to bases or staffing starports. Thus Survey Branch pegs the planetary population as 6,000 rather than 3,000 residents. Even this figure varies from time to time.

World Technology Level[edit]

Pit Stop possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Pit Stop is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to draft the policies voted upon. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by the voting population.

  • The planetary government is listed as a Participatory Democracy mostly as a nod to the Scouts' traditionally loose command structure. All residents have a say in decisions affecting their home, except where straight orders from the Scout Service are concerned.

World Law (L)[edit]

Pit Stop has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
