Mal'Gnar El is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.

  • As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • This is a "forbidden" world designated as a Red Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors. Everyone is forbidden to travel here.
  • This is a cold world with an overall climate that is at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance.
  • This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below standard for Charted Space.
  • It is the homeworld of the Mal'Gnar, a Minor Human Race.

System Data[edit]

Surplus Imperial naval assets based out of Kazar, including three light cruisers on rotating duty, direct any inbound traffic to one of the system's three gas giants for refueling.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Mal'Gnar El is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Mal'Gnar El has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Mal'Gnar El has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

With gravity only 0.51 standard, the planet has steep mountain ranges with peaks rising nearly 20 kilometers. These surround the plate boundaries of the world's newly formed supercontinent.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

All complex life here is transplanted. There is no fossil record prior to 300,000 years ago and recent banded iron formations were clearly produced in a near oxygen-free atmosphere.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Two sophont peoples live here, sometimes in mixed communities: the Human race known as Mal'Gnar and a subspecies of Chirper particularly adapted for flight.

Scouts from the Third Imperium contacted the Mal'Gnar in 187, and following a strong xenophobic response subsequently conducted only covert study. The IISS has maintained an interdiction patrol nearly continuously since 215; current patrols are based out of Kazar (Beyond 3001).

A distorted legend of the Mal'Gnar as a race of flying winged humanoids persists within the Third Imperium, traced back to a ninth century holvid series from Mora that depicted a fictional race of flying Humans based on "dramatic interpretations" of IISS reports.

World Starport[edit]

Mal'Gnar El does not have a starport. The Class X Starport is an indication that no starport exists in the system. There are no facilities or services available, and no site marked for landing.

World Population (P)[edit]

Mal'Gnar El has a population of 8,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
  • Despite the homogeneity of the global culture, settlements are scattered widely across the planet's supercontinent. Village-sized communities dominate and no town exceeds one thousand residents. Settlements are supported more by hunting and gathering than agriculture.

World Demographics[edit]

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Mal'Gnar El possesses a Technology Level of TL–2.

The highly conservative Mal'Gnar culture considers all potential effects of a new technology for a considerable time before it is introduced. Sophisticated metallurgical knowledge is evident and the Mal'Gnar have a good understanding of scientific principles and chemistry, but their society has been locked in its current TL-2 pattern for at least 10,000 years.

World Government (G)[edit]

Mal'Gnar El has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World Law (L)[edit]

Mal'Gnar El has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Culture[edit]

Caste limitations on marriage restrict relationships to arranged unions of male-female partners at least approximately five standard years beyond puberty.
