A Land Train is used for mass transit of passengers and/or cargo.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

A type of transit network utilizing groups of linked vehicles.

  • It generally operates on paved highways.

The example below is made up of a Wheeled Vehicle as the towing Ground Vehicle providing the motive power and two trailers being towed behind. A Ground Vehicle with one trailer is not generally given the title of Land Train. The number of trailers in a Land Train is dependent upon the power of the pulling tractor and the local legal framework for the operation of such Vehicles.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The earliest forms of land train typically consist of two or more primitive carts linked together and hauled along, typically through the use of Dray Beasts.

A train is a form of transport consisting of a series of connected vehicles that generally runs along a prepared path or track to transport cargo or passengers. The word "train" comes from the Old Terran French trahiner, derived from the Latin trahere meaning "to pull" or "to draw."

  • Because a vast variety of forms of transportation exists within Charted Space, the generic term "train" is used to define two or more linked vehicles operating on a defined guideway in order to transport cargo or passengers between locations. Terms such as railroad, monorail or gravlev are names for specific types of train.
