The Ladybugs of Amiens (Alpha Crucis 0731) are a Minor Non-Human Race with a Humanoid appearance. They are technologically developing sophonts.
Physiology & Environment (Ecology)[edit]
The Ladybugs are slender humanoids with multifaceted eyes, feathery ears, and shimmering blue-violet skins. They are serial hermaphrodites but spend most of their time as female or neuters.
Psychology & Philosophy (Mindset)[edit]
Because of their docility, piety, and hard work, the Ladybugs are used throughout the Solomani Confederation in domestic service.
The extent of the Ladybug intellect is not clear; many believe it is similar to that of a Human child. Attempts to educate Ladybugs in more complex ideas or skills generally fail, although their lack of interest might be due to social conditioning rather than innate limitations.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Consolidation of Turin missionaries first contacted the Ladybugs in -200. Once a TL–0 race, the Ladybugs quickly assimilated to Amiens' TL–4 Solomani society.
All wear Human (or human-styled) clothes, speak Anglic with a lisping accent, and belong to a sect of the Solomani Catholic Church that has renounced technology. No independent enclaves are known to exist on other worlds.
Amiens' Solomani Party arranged for "surplus" Ladybugs to emigrate to jobs on other worlds, and sometimes to serve as stewards or cargo hands aboard starships. The race has proved surprisingly adaptable; a few can even be found on technologically advanced worlds where they operate advanced machinery without the slightest idea of how it actually works.
Ladybugs are now lightly scattered throughout Alpha Crucis and other regions of the Solomani Confederation, usually acting as fashionable servants for social elites.
