Grendels are large and powerfully built. They are able to function efficiently in their homeworld's unusually high gravity.

Grendel exhibit recognized characteristics of intelligence:

- Tool use, allowing environmental manipulation.

The Grendels are physically strong and have a reputation for violence. Their nation-states are in a near constant state of armed conflict, with disagreements either arbitrated by powerful independent "Deciders" or settled through military action.
Matarisvan, their homeworld, is under Confederation military administration, with Confederation troops serving as peacekeepers.
Demographics[edit]
The total known population of Grendels is around 100,000. This figure has been relatively constant since the race was first contacted, over a thousand years ago.
- Rumors persist of hidden "wild tribes" existing in the deep wildernesses of their world.
