Floodgate is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and both non-agricultural and preindustrial in nature.

  • These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • Despite the challenges of living on asteroid colonies, this settlement is at a moderate population status of over a hundred million, but not yet at a billion sophonts in size.
  • The worldlets are, for the most part, unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • These worldlets are working towards being an industrial world but lack adequate resources to do so. Local leaders are diligently working towards the expansion of this settlement's industrial manufacturing capability.
  • It is a subject world of the Korsumug Empire located in the Anguilla Subsector of Theta Borealis Sector.
  • This is a "Puzzle" world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Floodgate is a binary star system.

  • The primary is a yellow-white main sequence.
  • The secondary is an orange main sequence.
Floodgate has two stars in the star system.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Floodgate is an Asteroid Belt mainworld.

It orbits within the far outer system.

Chart Orbit Outer Region Belt Simple.png

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Floodgate is an Asterioid Belt or Planetoid Belt consisting of a few very large objects with diameters of hundreds of kilometers, thousands of bodies of a few kilometers in diameter, and millions of smaller objects. Asteroid Belt is used when the belt is the mainworld of a system. Planetoid Belt refers to any non-mainworld belt within a system.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Floodgate is an Asteroid Belt, where all the bodies are in vacuum conditions requiring the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle a belt.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

The Floodgate belt contains multiple icy bodies. Many belt objects have frozen volatiles on their surfaces.

  • Wilderness refueling is possible within the belt, provided a suitable icy object can be found.
  • Water for the inhabitants is generally imported and is extensively recycled.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held chart of the belt exists within AAB Library Data records.

  • Locally, detailed maps may be available.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.

  • Verified updated data is constantly sought.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Floodgate has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Floodgate possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government (G)[edit]

Floodgate is governed by a Charismatic Oligarchy, like a charismatic dictatorship in that a larger group has asserted their right to rule. The group will likely have better rules of succession than a single dictator and may last longer, or may transition to a non-charismatic dictatorship.

World Law (L)[edit]

Floodgate has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A world with this law level may be an Amber Zone or a Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. On worlds with this degree of law, it is difficult to distinguish the police from the military. On others, there is no difference.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: A (abundant)
  • Labor: 7 (tens of millions)
  • Infrastructure: 6 (limited)
  • Efficiency: +2 (good)

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: -2 (very unimportant)

World Demographics (P)[edit]

Floodgate has a population of 800,000,000

Urbanization[edit]

Cities are tunnelled into large rocky planetoids.

  • Each has its own starport.
  • Smaller facilities exist on other rocky bodies.
  • Structures and facilities are sealed.

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: C (fragmented)
  • Acceptance: 6 (aloof)
  • Strangeness: 9 (extremely confusing)
  • Symbols: B (abstract)
