Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Filentred is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Filentred has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Filentred has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Much of the land surface of Filentred is home to several species of plant whose pollen is a severe irritant to Humans. For this reason, the majority of the population dwell at sea. This does not remove the taint completely, but distance and moist air cause much of the pollen to drop to the surface, reducing the burden on filtration systems.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Filentred is the trailing-side anchor for the Trans-Islands Run which is the access route to the Islands Cluster. From here, it's possible to make a single J4 (or two tedious J2) towards Riftspan Station.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Filentred has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

  • The Highport is home to a small Scout Service base, whose personnel are mainly concerned with operations in the Great Rift and, particularly, into the Islands subsectors. The base supports several long-range Scout cruisers and the tankers that support them.

World Population (P)[edit]

Filentred has a population of 500,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

Urbanization[edit]

The inhabitants mostly live in cities of about 50,000-100,000 people located in shallow waters off the coasts of islands that have been cleared of the offending pollen-producing vegetation. The land is used for agriculture, though most of Filentred's food comes from the sea. The cities each have a governor who wields considerable power but answers to the world's ruling class.

World Government (G)[edit]

Filentred is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.

World Law (L)[edit]

Filentred has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Filentred possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

Note that it is the general, sustainable tech level that is rated at 8. The rulers live apart from their subjects, in a mobile floating habitat built offworld using high-tech engineering. This habitat is outfitted at TL-12, including its defence systems. It has workshops and factories capable of maintaining TL-12 equipment, but only on a very small scale.
