Description[edit]
The Michael was envisaged as a new, high-acceleration courier vessel for the New Heaven Courier Service and was equipped with an experimental 4-G drive and the new artificial gravity and inertial compensation systems. It is not clear whether these systems were the cause of the loss of the vessel to Pirates. The original design has not yet been much altered by the current keeper of the vessel (ownership is disputed) - most of the vessels issues being a result of the damage inflicted during its loss. The vessel is also called the La Dolce Vita.
The vessel is not currently recognised as space-worthy, but is reputed by be airtight and inhabited.
Deck-plans can be found Here
Structure[edit]
The hull of the La Dolce Vita is streamlined with three decks: Boat, Main and Cargo. It is constructed of Crystaliron and its aerodynamics are enhanced by aero-fins that allow the craft to manoeuvre far more effectively in an atmosphere than its size would otherwise indicate. Additionally, the body itself provides significant aerodynamic lift while in an atmosphere.
Accommodation[edit]
There are two Officers staterooms, one for each of the Captain and the Marine Detachment's Lieutenant. Each of these officers gets a full room to themselves - although they double as meeting rooms and offices.
There are six crew staterooms. Each is occupied by two crew members.
There are four marine's staterooms. Each is occupied by 2 marines.
Additionally, there is a Briefing Room and a Medical Bay.
Finally, there are four low-berths for use by the medical staff for emergency storage of severely injured crew or for use for the transport of prisoners.
Atmosphere[edit]
The La Dolce Vita has 400 dTons of atmosphere aboard, usually maintained at a pressure of 1 atmosphere. Additionally, the vessel has 400dTons of emergency atmosphere capacity. i.e. in the event of losing its atmosphere it can replace all 100%. Following a refit, the ship uses Belt Systems JC-U90 air recycling systems. The original system had been extensively damaged during fight that resulted in the vessel's loss.
Cargo[edit]
The 160 dTon cargo space includes a gantry crane system for loading and off-loading cargo. This can lift 10 dTon (64 ton) containers to 5m beyond the bay doors in 1G. The ship also has a safe occupying 0.7 dTons (0.3 dTons internal volume).
Engineering[edit]
The main engineering space includes:
- Fusion Powerplant
- Emergency Power Unit
- Prototype Manoeuvre Drive
- Workshop
- Fuel scoops and associated compressor/freezer units to allow use of atmospheric hydrogen sources.
Electricals[edit]
Each deck has at least the following main circuits:
- Lights
- Domestic Power
- Life Support Power (Port and Starboard separate)
- Gravitics and Inertial Compensation (Port and Starboard separate)
- Emergency Power
Additionally, there are separate circuits for:
- Sensors
- Main Manoeuvre Drive
- Directional Micro-Thrusters (Each quadrant separate)
- Cargo Handling System
- Computers
- Each Weapons Turret
- Each main external port (Airlocks, Cargo Doors, Vehicle Bay Door)
Internal Electronics[edit]
Each space has sensors for:
- Temperature
- Atmospheric Composition & Pressure
- Perceived Acceleration
- Sound
- Video
- And has a library data port
Each crew deck space has a ship control data port, access to which can be controlled from the bridge or engineering control desk.
Engineering has an Engineering Control Desk
The Bridge has 10 General Control Desks: Captain, 2xHelm, Astrogator, 2xSensors, 4xGunners
n.b. There is a camera in each of the main spaces including each section of the main lift shafts. There are three in the cargo bay.
External Electronics[edit]
- Basic Military Lidar
- Basic Military Radar
- Basic Military Jammer
- Basic Optical/IR Telescope
- Docking Video
- Low Light Sensors
- Atmospheric Composition & Pressure Sensor
- Radiation Sensor
- Temperature Sensor
- Running Lights
- Radar Transponder
n.b. The video cameras are mounted on the 8 'corners' of the vessel. This gives almost 360 degree coverage. Additionally, the ship has the antennae and drone-elements to operate a remote sensor net at a distance from its current position
Weaponry[edit]
As a condition of the vessels designation as salvaged scrap, the weaponry aboard was decommissioned by the Belter Navy.
History[edit]
Constructed on New Earth in New Heaven and launched in 292 as the Michael, the vessel was lost to pirates in the belt in 297. Subsequently salvaged, it was condemned by the Admiralty Court of Siwan Station, designated as scrap and left at Chikitsa Kshudragrah. The vessel was then re-registered to Poseidon and its reconstruction started. New Heaven, of course, decline to recognise the judgement of the Belt's court (or the re-registration) and the old owners are now trying to get the New Heaven courts to rule in their favour. However, the case has been referred to the Space Shipping Adjudication Panel - which has a backlog caused by the the Belt's. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for hearing in 304.
Features of the Vessel[edit]
At the time of the battle, the armour of the vessel was penetrated, hull of the vessel was compromised and the M-Drive and Powerplant hit.
