Summary[edit]
The Belter Navy is a confederate force where the individual elements are provided by the constituent groups of the Belt with the overall control being managed by appointments to a central control and policy board under the Belt's Central Government. Major elements in the Belter Navy are supplied by:
High Command[edit]
The Belter Navy only has commissioned officers and only has high-command. Only Admirals (Rank O6) are part of the Belter Navy as a whole. All lower ranks are provided by the confederated forces.
Overall Strength[edit]
At the present date, the Belter Navy is capable of fielding about 120 squadrons of vessels, making it one of the two largest naval forces in the New Earth System. However, this hides the fact that this is constructed from multiple small factions and thus there is a preponderance of "Patrol Squadrons". The Belter Navy can only field three major battle squadrons, making it's heavy groups less in number to that of (say) Touchdown. That is not to say that the Belt would be a push-over. An enormous number of lightly armed merchants would rally to the cause if the belt were ever seriously threatened.
BNS Uchide no Kozuchi[edit]
BNS Uchide no Kozuchi (打ち出の小槌, lit. "Tap-Appear Mallet") is the belts largest vessel and is unique in that it is a converted iron asteroid. The core has been drilled for a massive particle accelerator and it is, individually, the largest vessel in the New Earth System - matching (some say exceeding) in size the colony ships that brought Humans to New Earth.
