Campaign:NHNE/Places/Chikitsa Kshudragrah
Summary[edit]
Chikitsa Kshudragrah D000438-A As Va Lo Fr
Planetology[edit]
Chikitsa Kshudragrah is a small irregularly shaped asteroid - less than 5km in all dimensions - but one that has grown due to the presence of man-made structures. The orbit of Chikitsa Kshudragrah within The Belt means that it is travelling within a cluster of nearby inhabited rocks that change relative position overall - causing fluctuations in the catchment.
Population[edit]
The population of Chikitsa Kshudragrah is 6853 permanent residents. Additionally there are a number of transients residing on the 200 bed hospital that forms the rock's main reason for local importance and in various local hospitality venues. Of the residents nearly 1700 are employed by the hospital and about 700 are under the age of 18.
Education[edit]
There is just one school and residents seeking higher education (other than in Medicine-related careers) must emigrate or attend virtual classes.
Government[edit]
Chikitsa Kshudragrah is governed by the "Board of Administration" which is currently overseen by a Garrison Commander of the Siwan Space Guard placed on the rock for the purposes of "Piracy Suppression". The Board of Administration sought to maintain a neutral stance during the recent crisis, but found that increasingly difficult with the presence of the garrison and (for a time) naval flotilla of the Siwan Space Guard. As the orbits draw Chikitsa Kshudragrah away from Siwan Station, the ability of the Siwan Space Guard to maintain their garrison is being questioned.
There is a courthouse on the rock, and the Garrison Commander sits as one of the three justices overseeing that institution.
The Board of Administration has a security team of 10 officers who undertake the role of police for the rock. Detective services are provided to that team under contract as required. They have a small jail-cell at the security station.
Law[edit]
The relatively high law level is enforced by the Hospital culture and the presence of a military garrison.
Landing[edit]
The docks consist of a number of long frames projecting from the body of the asteroid, each of which can accommodate one or two vessels. Landing charges are Cr200 for the first week and Cr200 per day thereafter. Long-term storage is available.
Economy[edit]
Chikitsa Kshudragrah Hospital[edit]
The hospital is the core of the economy. This institution specialises in planned medical care - it has a relatively small emergency medicine capacity given the difficulty of quick access and the small local population. This is augmented by a medical-cryogenics facility which can be used to hold cases in the event of an unmanageable peak in demand. Maternity Care and Obstetrics are a key feature of its offering and it has a high turn-over of patients through those departments. Over 5,000 babies are born in the hospital each year.
The hospital has modern medical technologies in its diagnostic scanners, department of nuclear medicine and general clinical care - with support for the use of rapid-healing techniques while patients undergo an accelerated metabolism using "Slow" drug techniques. It has been pioneering in the use of regenerative techniques during the recent spate of conflict-related injuries.
Spaceport[edit]
The spaceport maintains a key role in the health of the rock's economy. The public maintenance facilities have been closed due to the Taktsang Pirates Campaign and have not yet been permitted to re-open. There is a maintenance hanger used by the Hospital and another used by the residents for maintenance of a small number of private-hire and private vessels. General usage by non-residents for spaceship maintenance has been banned for several years.
The port does maintain a fuel storage facility and (only) refined fuel is available. This is topped off by tanker that docks at the end of each month (circumstances permitting).
In 299, the port handled about 20,000 containers, 2/3rds of which were for onward movement.
