Asharval is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is an unclaimed Non-Aligned world located in the Chang-Tu Subsector of Theron Sector.
- This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Asharval is a binary star system.
- The primary is an orange main sequence.
- The secondary is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x9 secondary rocky worlds.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Asharval is tidally locked to its primary star.
- It experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the star to move in the sky.
It orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.
- It lies within the zone's warmer inner H+ region
- It receives higher levels of stellar energy.
- The world orbits beyond the star's Jump Shadow.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Asharval is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Asharval has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences high temperatures within the narrow twilight zone.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Asharval has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
- The dark side of the world is covered in an unstable crust of frost and fractured ice.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
- Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
- Detailed survey data commands premium prices.
(Placeholder chart, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Primitive native life occupying a number of ecological niches. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- Native life thrives in high temperatures.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Asharval is a quiet backwater, though it has a growing economy and rising standards of living.
- Settlement within the system comes from spinward, from the heavily populated worlds of Theta Borealis Sector.
- The resources of the system are being exploited.
A few organizations and private interests are active within the system.
- Commercial traffic is sporadic: ships occasionally visit.
- Commo regularly picks up signals and private chatter. Communications are in Riftian Anglic.
- One or two commercial navigation beacons may be active.
- Vessels rarely operate among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.
Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.
- Verified updated data is constantly sought.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Asharval has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Asharval has a population of 60,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
Urbanization[edit]
A few small urban areas each surrounded by satellite communities.
- The population inhabit a single relatively large region.
- Much of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Asharval possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
- Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
- Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
- Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government (G)[edit]
Asharval is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
World Military[edit]
Approximately 150 personnel.
World Law (L)[edit]
Asharval has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -3 (very unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 8 (moderate)
- Labor: 3 (thousands)
- Infrastructure: 2 (extremely limited)
- Efficiency: -1 (average)
World Culture[edit]
- Homogeneity: 5 (harmonious)
- Acceptance: 1 (extremely xenophobic)
- Strangeness: 1 (very typical)
- Symbols: 3 (very concrete)
World Timeline[edit]

- 995-1065: the Second Survey charts the system.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published.
