Acrid is a low population, fluidic hellworld of less than 10,000 sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • A fluid world has an oceanic geography consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.
  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the The Borderland Subsector of Trojan Reach Sector.

Description (Planetology)[edit]

The system is used as a shortcut for J-3 ships travelling the Hierate Route, allowing them to bypass the Argona (2923) and Sperle (2824) systems on their way to Tech-World (2624).

  • Most Imperial escorts use the Acrid bypass.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Acrid is a Big World between 15,200km and 16,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1.1G and 1.5G. The horizon will appear about 5.7km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Acrid has an Insidious Atmosphere which requires the use of a Hostile Environment Suit or Vacc Suit, but extreme conditions cause the corrosive effects to defeat any personal protective measures in a few hours. TL–10 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Acrid has 05-15% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Acrid is shrouded in thick toxic clouds; vessels coming in to land tend to make for the port as quickly as possible. A lengthy decontamination process is necessary once the vessel is in a sealed landing bay.

Acrid is a place to work, not a place to live comfortably.

The General Development Company has a major facility in the Acrid system.

World Starport[edit]

Acrid has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

  • The downport is small but is clean and efficient. There are colourful shops with a modest array of consumer goods available and a range of entertainment.

World Demographics[edit]

There are rumours of an intelligent lifeform of some kind on Acrid, and even claims that these "slitherers" or "blotches" have a technological society. Most communities have someone who once met a person who swore they saw one of these mysterious creatures.

World Military[edit]

Acrid has no military as such, although a very small space force is maintained to protect the highport. The security service has paramilitary equipment to defend against raiders, but is no match for a proper combat unit.
