Turku is a poor, moderate population pre-industrial hellworld, with over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
- This world would like to become a major industrial powerhouse in the subsector, but lacks the population and resources to build an adequate workforce and industrial business sector.
- This is a cold world with an overall climate that is at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance.
- This world is also the overall capital of an interstellar government with the massive extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
- This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or over technology standards for Charted Space.
- It is a member of the The Reach in the Reach Subsector of Crucis Margin Sector.
- This world-system hosts a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships, which may be located on or off-world.
- A little under 10% of the population is composed of Hivers.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)
The Turku Wastes: Home to the Reach's only Naval Base, within the Reach Subsector of the Crucis Margin Sector the 'self defense' squadron made quite a name for themselves.
- The port became the headquarters for a band of infamous corsairs. What was interesting is the dramatic similarities between a particular light escort vessel ordered for fleet operations and the most commonly encountered pirate raider. The Turku Class Light Escort are an unwelcome sight to merchant captains.
