Fylora is a pre-agricultural and nonindustrial world lacking adequate development for its economy to become prosperous.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Nisor Subsector of Far Home Sector.
- Fylora is a Voluntarily Regressive World.
Astrography and Planetology
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- This world lies on the Outland Run Star Lane.
System Data
Kearsage-Fylora System
The primary is Kearsage, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.42 Sols, a mass of 0.825 Sols, and a diameter of 1.263 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a trace atmosphere inner world, and (II) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world. (III) Fylora orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (IV) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (V) a small gas giant, (VI) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (VII) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (VIII) a ringed large gas giant, (IX) a small ice giant, and (X) a sparse icy planetoid belt form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Mainworld Data
(III) Fylora
(III) Fylora is designated the mainworld. It orbits Kearsage at a mean distance of 0.65 AU (97.2 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 210 days 18 hours and a rotation period of 23 hours. The axial tilt is 22 degrees. Fylora has a diameter of 8,237 km, a density of 4.97 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.58 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.79 bar and a composition of 78% nitrogen (N2), 21% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by allergenic spores and pollens of organic origin. Approximately 49% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.25m. Mean surface temperature: 17°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Prime and experiences minor seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and moderate weather systems driven by the star and the seas work across the globe.
Satellite
Fylora retains a single natural satellite, a vacuum worldlet named Krass:
- (IIIa) Krass (UWP Y100000-0, orbiting at 20 Diameters/165,000 km)
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 213 million km², Land surface area: 108 million km², Water surface area: 105 million km².
Native Lifeforms
Kearsage-Fylora System
Fylora, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (IV) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.
No other world in the system is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)
A scattered assortment of crude domed polar ice cities with carefully tended hot houses adorn the northern hemisphere. Thick riveted steel beams and durable double panes of polarized glass struggle to keep the harshest elements at bay. Long rail lines link these outposts to the equatorial Starport hub. Along the equator there are six fertile city-states connected by a complex network of canals. This permits over burdened cargo barges to ply their trade. After much fighting and long sieges between warring city-states a truce and eventual compact between the noble houses formed the current status quo. A cease-fire in some respects, no house has dared to violate the peace. The depleted population haunts the ruins of some of the more looted spires. Hopper genetic modifications to their human charges render most natives resistant to the local atmospheric taint. Creche born humans tend toward a tall willowy appearance and a reclusive demeanor. Agricultural combines tend massive sunlit grow vats of spirulina as it serves as the predominate food staple. Green gruel as a local cuisine is almost entirely reviled by off-worlders. Oligarch nobles from each group serve on the senate of the world council to debate matters of planetary policy.
World starport
Fylora has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Fylora possesses a Technology Level of TL–4.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone and telegraphs, widespread printing.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Trains and early automobiles.
- Water: Clippers and steam ships.
- Air: Dirigibles, balloons, very basic rockets.
World government
Fylora is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.
