What is the policy for handling clear and distinct rules differences between editions? The affected content is on https://wiki.travellerrpg.com/Imperial_Currency the section labeled Imperial Banking, and the content differs sharply from what is given on page 91 of the MG2 Core Rules.

I was fixing the Akeen entry to use the data from the Gateway to destiny book. I realies there is a whole bunch of "canon" data in this book. There are a large group of races, a number of empires discussed, complete writeups on four sectors, and a number of peronalities. Did you want me to go through a dump the library data from this book in to the Wiki?

::: If you go to [[Special:Watchlist]], it displays your current watchlist. How many pages are currently there? Mine shows "11,781 pages are on your Watchlist (plus talk pages)". When I went to [[Special:EditWatchlist]] I saw the blank page. I checked the server logs and saw the page generating an out of memory error. Apparently the EditWatchlist is trying to generate the whole list of 11,781 pages to remove them from the watchlist. I can increase the memory limit of the server, but don't want to leave it at an increased value to avoid causing other problems on the server. Trying to generate a full list of 11,781 pages is insane and stupid, and we should file reports to fix this problem. In any case, I know what the problem is, and if you want to edit your full watchlist, let me know and I'll up the memory on the server for a few days. :There are only two questions that really need answering. First we want all the data that we can in the wiki. The questions are 1) is it library type data (self-explanitory) 2) Is the content a significant part of the book. e.g. if the data was transcribed could you forgoe buying the book? - I have a category "complete" for things like 101 Religions, so we can put the reglion name and a quick library like summary, but leave off enough information that one would have to buy the book to make full use of the information. This allows the information to become widespread use, and those that want to make use of it would be encouraged to buy the product.

:We have permission to use the Library Data, and things like the Imperial Encyclopedia for the various versions of traveller, but not for others. So if this supplement has this information as background, and a lot of additional stuff then okay. (The alien races books have a ton of info on the races, we put a page or two worth of information here, the book is still a necessary resource for someone wanting to use the race fully). ::::: To be clear, the memory requirement is for the "EditWatchlist" page only. Pages on the watchlist is simply pointer records in the database and has little or no other effect on the wiki. I really don't have an idea of how many articles are the upper limit on using the EditWatchlist before the memory for that one page runs out. I have found if you go to [[Special:Preferences]], then under watchlist tab, select the "Edit raw watchlist" (or go to [[Special:EditWatchlist/raw]]), this presents the entire list as a edit box. Me too! I can't seem to get [[:Template:NavigationBox]] and/or [[:Template:ThirdImperiumEmperors]] to work. There was a few #if in the NavigationBox (which I stole from Wikipedia), but even though we should have a version of Wiki which supports this, I don't think they work. My original idea for the LE template was to supply a place for a reference (or list of references), if present then the article would be marked as canon (though some references are non-canon e.g. judges guild), and then a nice format for the reference would be done (A box in the corner say). Of course we needed to get the bibliography completed first. <pre> This is why we have the source in this type of box (blank at start of line)</pre>as it is an item to be worked on site wide. The Wikia wiki does not support the <nowiki>{{#if:}}</nowiki> because it does not have the [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/ParserFunctions Parser Functions] extensions enabled. This works in the Wikipedia because they do (along with a number of other extensions). I need to submit a bug report/feature request to the Wikia people via their [http://bugs.wikia.com/enter_bug.cgi?product=Wikia Bugzilla] system. But am currently wating for the login to get in.

The [[Sword of the Knight Publications]] entry, as a publisher is good, however the published list is a list of the magazine. I think it would be more consistent to just put the three magazines in the body, with the current list being the body for the missing Traveller Chronicle entry. (There are probably many other inconsistencies, but I just noticed this one).

All of a sudden, every page I look at that uses the StellarDataQuery template and has a value in the Sophonts field of its /data page is expanding it 'five' times, twice in Spanish (example: [[Regina (world)]]. Hello Thomas, I'm back after an unintended hiatus. Now I'm wondering. I used to be, a long time ago, the HIWG coordinator/owner for Alpha Crucis Sector. What I'm wondering is, if I were to world build in the sector (or anywhere else for that matter) can I add things like world maps to the wiki? I'm not sure since that is a canon area whether that's allowed or not. I'm still interested in that area as it has low alien population (my personal bias) but intrigue with the Solomani Confederation along with some border 3I areas.

I've noticed that some of my entries for book formats have changed from "BFB" to "paperback". I'm trying not to get into some sort of weird revert war here, so I need to know if I can carry on using "BFB" or not and, if not, why not. Thanks [[User:Gruffty|Gruffty]] 07:28, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

My real issue is that I'm seeing weirdness with the way the world summary template works. If you look at [[Alexin (world)]] and [[Islent (world)]] the format of the summary is not at all similar. Additionally, the summary for Alexin describes it as a 'a high-population world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.' despite its UWP indicating a population in the tens of thousands.

I noticed yesterday that on the Aslan page (but also on other pages too, it seems) the "next" link near the bottom of the page for "World listings" does not work when trying to step through the huge list of Aslan worlds.  I've checked in both Firefox and Chrome, and while the page seems to refresh when the link is clicked, nothing actually changes and the newly presented page starts at the beginning of the world list again.

Can you take a look at the entry [[Sol (star)]] and the InfoboxStar template:  [[Template:InfoboxStar]]. I was trying to make the image optional, so I took the <nowiki><tr><td colspan="2">{{{image}}}</td></tr> and put a {{if|{{{image|}}|</nowiki> around it, but the combination doesn't seem to work. As a seeming expert in DPL, I need some help with a template. I have a list of books by author broken down by category. The only issue is that I don't want the Ludography category printed out with the others. See [[Loren Wiseman]] article. I like the breakdown by challenge/classic traveller/etc. but I don't think that the Ludography category should appear in this list. (The Navigationbox was probably not the best choice either...) I've just created the page [[Understanding Traveller]]. For some weird reason, the page seems to have added Categories to itself (not a problem, but I was expecting to have to put them in myself!). *BUT*: the Categories bar on the page has [[GDW Books]] in it; there is no Category called that, but there *is* a Category called [[GDW_List]]. Also, I cannot get the book Infobox to show that the book is canonical; I type canon=yes and it shows "no" - what am I doing wrong? Finally, I noticed when cross checking the Categories bar that the Categories bar for the [[The Traveller Book]] has a link called "Ass Books" - wandalism, eye preezoom? :OK, sorted the "GDW Books" Category out by creating it (I didn't understand what was being asked of me by the software when it created a Category page for me to edit!). What is the policy for handling clear and distinct rules differences between editions? The affected content is on https://wiki.travellerrpg.com/Imperial_Currency the section labeled Imperial Banking, and the content differs sharply from what is given on page 91 of the MG2 Core Rules.

Edit Watchlist[edit]

The "Edit Your List of Watched pages" button on my Watchlist Page simply takes me to a blank web page (https://wiki.travellerrpg.com/Special:EditWatchlist). Is there any way to restore this functionality? --WHULorigan (talk) 11:55, 24 February 2021 (EST)

If you go to Special:Watchlist, it displays your current watchlist. How many pages are currently there? Mine shows "11,781 pages are on your Watchlist (plus talk pages)". When I went to Special:EditWatchlist I saw the blank page. I checked the server logs and saw the page generating an out of memory error. Apparently the EditWatchlist is trying to generate the whole list of 11,781 pages to remove them from the watchlist. I can increase the memory limit of the server, but don't want to leave it at an increased value to avoid causing other problems on the server. Trying to generate a full list of 11,781 pages is insane and stupid, and we should file reports to fix this problem. In any case, I know what the problem is, and if you want to edit your full watchlist, let me know and I'll up the memory on the server for a few days. Tjoneslo (talk) 23:13, 26 April 2021 (EDT)
Mine says: "6,196 pages are on your Watchlist (plus talk pages). " Is there an upper limit of pages (e.g. 5000 ?) that it needs to be under? Many of the pages on my list were auto-added because of minor edits I have made that I probably do not want to track anyway. To be clear, the memory requirement is for the "EditWatchlist" page only. Pages on the watchlist is simply pointer records in the database and has little or no other effect on the wiki. I really don't have an idea of how many articles are the upper limit on using the EditWatchlist before the memory for that one page runs out. I have found if you go to Special:Preferences, then under watchlist tab, select the "Edit raw watchlist" (or go to Special:EditWatchlist/raw), this presents the entire list as a edit box. You can remove (or add) article titles to the list and press save. Tjoneslo (talk) 06:47, 27 April 2021 (EDT)

Looking for admin with sysop privileges[edit]

Hello, i wasn't sure whom to ask, but i'm looking for any admin with sysop privileges who would be able to perform a Page Deletion. The article in question is Nishant Taliyan which was probably created in some kind of spamming activity. I wasn't sure who would be able to Delete Pages, so i thought i'd ask you because you seem to perform so many useful tasks involving cleanup mechanisms behind the wiki. I have never really contributed to or edited wikis in the past, so I was very thoughtful with the change that I made, and was sure to document it. I did search my collection of reference material for Traveller and did not find specific mentions of the vargr having any human politics :P

Has a template broken?[edit]

All of a sudden, every page I look at that uses the StellarDataQuery template and has a value in the Sophonts field of its /data page is expanding it 'five' times, twice in Spanish (example: Regina (world). Worldbuilding in Alpha Crucis[edit]

Hello Thomas, I'm back after an unintended hiatus. Now I'm wondering. I used to be, a long time ago, the HIWG coordinator/owner for Alpha Crucis Sector. What I'm wondering is, if I were to world build in the sector (or anywhere else for that matter) can I add things like world maps to the wiki? I'm not sure since that is a canon area whether that's allowed or not. I'm still interested in that area as it has low alien population (my personal bias) but intrigue with the Solomani Confederation along with some border 3I areas. Flyteach

Issue with World template (also can't add topics to help forum?)[edit]

Hi there! Sorry for piling directly into your talk page with a help request / bug report, but the instructions at Forum:Help_desk say to add the title of the help request into a box that doesn't exist...

My real issue is that I'm seeing weirdness with the way the world summary template works. If you look at Alexin (world) and Islent (world) the format of the summary is not at all similar. Additionally, the summary for Alexin describes it as a 'a high-population world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.' despite its UWP indicating a population in the tens of thousands.

If these are things a simple contributor can fix, I'm happy to help if you can point me in the right direction. Cheers!

"Next" link for "world listings" not working[edit]

Hi Thomas,

I noticed yesterday that on the Aslan page (but also on other pages too, it seems) the "next" link near the bottom of the page for "World listings" does not work when trying to step through the huge list of Aslan worlds. I've checked in both Firefox and Chrome, and while the page seems to refresh when the link is clicked, nothing actually changes and the newly presented page starts at the beginning of the world list again.

I have used the function successfully a while ago (months, I'd say) so whatever is preventing it from working must be a relatively new thing.
