- It is a military ship and a monitor.
Description (Specifications)
Knuckle Head class System Defense Monitors serve with The Democratic People's Defense Forces, the armed forces of the Winston Democracy. Four can be carried by the Stormbringer class Fleet Tender.
Basic Ship Characteristics
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten craft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]
| No. | Category | Remarks |
|---|---|---|
| 1. | Tonnage | The Knuckle Head class is constructed using a 1000 Ton hull built as a Buffered Planetoid. The hull is unstreamlined and cannot operate in anything denser than Trace atmospheres without risking catastrophic structural failure.
|
| 2. | Crew | 28 personnel. XX command, XX engineering, XX gunnery, XX service, XX medical, and XX stewards. There are 15 Marines and XX flight crew.
|
| 3. | Performance | The vessel mounts a Maneuver-4 drive and a Power plant-4, giving performance of 4-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 4. There is fuel tankage of 40 Tons, giving the power plant 4 weeks duration.
|
| 4. | Electronics | Adjacent to the bridge is a computer model/2 fib: no backup computer is installed.
|
| 5. | Hardpoints | 10 hardpoints. |
| 6. | Armament | The normal weapons fit-out for an Knuckle Head class is:
|
| 7. | Defenses | The hull is plated, structurally reinforced, and built with secure bulkheads and compartments that give it a High Guard armor rating of 9.
|
| 8. | Craft | The vessel carries no dedicated subcraft. |
| 9. | Fuel Treatment | The vessel is not fitted with fuel purification equipment. |
| 10. | Cost | The basic cost of the vessel is MCr678.75
|
| 11. | Construction Time | 120 weeks as standard. Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract. |
| 12. | Comments | The ship does not have a cargo hold. |
History & Background
Knuckle Head class System Defense Monitors are built for The Democratic People's Defense Forces, the military of the Winston Democracy. The vessel is a fusion-tunneled buffered asteroid: the interior compartments are protected by heavy armor plates and the craft has extensive structural bracing. The design is built around its large missile bay. Knuckle Heads carry a section of marines for boarding actions and inspections.
