Lycose is a poor, non-agricultural and nonindustrial world.

  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • It has few prospects for economic development. Life here is drastically bleak.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Genesti Subsector of Far Home Sector.

System data

The primary is Durian, an ordinary white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.52 Sols, a mass of 0.871 Sols and a diameter of 1.265 million km. Its inner system consists of (I, II) two small rocky vacuum worlds. (III) Lycose is designated the mainworld and orbits within the habitable zone. (IV, V) two large gas giants, (VI) a small gas giant, and (VII) a large icy exotic atmosphere world form the outer system. Lycose and all of the outer worlds retain satellites.

Pip, designated the companion, is a dwarf star lying some 5050 AU from the system primary. It has a luminosity of 0.00004 Sols, a mass of 0.83 Sols and a diameter of 12500 km. (I) a dense stony planetoid belt, (II) a sparse stony planetoid belt, and (III) a small gas giant form the outer system: the gas giant retains one major moon.

(III) Lycose

(III) Lycose orbits Durian at a mean distance of 0.68 AU (102 million km) and is designated as the mainworld. It has an orbital period of 661 days 17 hours and a rotation period of 27.5 hours. The axial tilt is 22 degrees. It has a diameter of 8,172 km, a density of 7.23 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.84 G. Lycose is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.39 bar and a composition of 80% nitrogen, 18% oxygen, 1% carbon dioxide, and 1% argon, neon and other trace gases. Approximately 29% of the surface is covered in seas and lakes of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.25m. Mean surface temperature: 13°C. The atmosphere is relatively sluggish and slow weather systems, driven by the star and the seas, roll across the globe. The climate is seasonal and weather patterns follow regular cycles during the local year.

Satellites:

Lycose retains two satellites, Licin, a small vacuum world and Momu, a small trace atmosphere world:

(IIIa) Licin (UWP G200000-0, orbiting at 35 Diameters/286,000 km)
(IIIb) Momu (UWP F311213-9, orbiting at 40 Diameters/327,000 km).

Mainworld geography and topography

Total surface area: 210 million km², Land surface area: 149 million km², Water surface area: 61 million km².

Native lifeforms

Lycose has primitive native life, largely consisting of microscopic organisms. The most advanced forms are primitive worms measuring millimeters in length and tiny shelled swimmers. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Lycose has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World technology level

Lycose possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World government

Lycose is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.
