Daridura has both an unbreathable thin atmosphere and a lack of surface water, making habitation by sophonts difficult. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Old Suns Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Daridura, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world. During the Long Night this world was named Imar.

Astrography and Planetology

Daridura is a member of the Kimalad Cluster.

Mainworld Data

Daridura is primarily famous for its cave formations and unusual underground flora and fauna which mimics the yellow and amber colours of the rock. All blend more or less into the surrounding environment, making it difficult to distinguish except by movement.

History and Background

Originally a small Vilani colony during the First Imperium, it was settled by Dhuna fundamentalists who fled there to avoid persecution.

During the Rule of Man, many settlers, afraid of the assassin-priests, left to colonize Edaridur (Dagudashaag 1503). While the difference between the names Daridura ("New Desert Home") and Edaridur ("Not Desert Home") were obvious to Vilani, the subtleties of Vilani grammar and pronunciation were utterly lost on the Terrans who accidentally renamed both worlds Dardua. When the IISS first surveyed the area they used the old Second Imperium navigational information as a basis and perpetuated the error. Despite the identical spelling each name is pronounced differently and thus both names have stuck.

This world was part of the Kimalad Collective, a pocket empire which extended from Nipe (now Shidu (Dagudashaag 1406)) to Armiirk (now Liikirba (Dagudashaag 1705)), also encompassing Uumin Duu (now Bastion (Dagudashaag 1507)) and Nuunzaaind (now Aam (Dagudashaag 1604)). The emperor, Jyond Quasot, was a master of manipulation. He turned his subjects into rabid psionphobes with his stories of Guukian spies within his empire. He used this fear of psionics in order to consolidate his power and eliminate his enemies. He rode the resulting tidal wave of public psionphobia to war with the neighboring Guukian Federation.

Aspects of the Cult of Dhuna are still believed to be worshiped deep within secret caverns here, despite the almost universal loathing that Imperial citizens have for it. A small deployment of Imperial Marines have been stationed on Daridura since 211 with orders to destroy any Dhuna cult members on sight.

World Starport

Daridura has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)

Daridura has a population of 3,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Technology Level (TL)

Daridura possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government (G)

Daridura is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.

World Law (L)

Daridura has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
