Zydarian Codominium Star Legion

The Zydarian Codominium Star Legion is a fleet that has four squadrons capable of interstellar combat operations. It is based on Zydar.

• Zydar is the capital and the location of the only Naval Base in the territory of the Zydarian Codominium. It is also the seat of the Zydarian government. Its naval shipyards are responsible for the majority of the fleet's main combatants.

Description (Specifications)

Rather than rely on imported weapon systems this government has elected to go it alone and build their own ships and equipment. Using local naval architects they have designed and built ships at the indigenous technology levels.

Goals (Mission)

More so perhaps than even defence, the goal of the Star Legion is to enforce collection of tithes for the religious government -- in some areas, they are accused of being little more than extortion-happy pirates.

Strategy & Doctrine (Operations)

Strong system defense boat squadrons are built at each planet within the Codominium's four star systems capable of their manufacture. Those with technology levels too low to defend themselves are subject to routine patrols from main fleet elements. The Star Legion uses these fleet elements as a reaction force. Scouts are forward-deployed to observe and report if any enemy fleet elements are within a few week's travel of allied worlds. They also note the passage of pirates and corsairs. They destroy or seize the ones they can catch -- unless the ships in question have a letter of marquee from the Star Legion.

History & Background (Dossier)

To survive in the far extents of The Beyond over time requires a measured hand. Security is balanced against available resources, expansion comes at a cost, and a government must be patient to survive taking opportunities when they present themselves. The target planets of Zydar's expansion were dominated economically, politically and militarily. Little was left to chance or luck, the victims simply had no choice but to accept annexation, for "their own good". Cultural, economic and social bonds developed later. The Star Legion does provide protection and few in the area make it their business to hinder them. This protection does come at a cost: taxation. Local shipyards are granted contracts to produce what they can to contribute forces to their own security.

Most great battles of Codominium history were really one sided. They try to avoid fights they don't think they can win.
