The Zarodysh of Zoloto are a Minor Non-Human Race native to Fulani Sector.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Zarodysh are descended from forest-dwelling carnivores. They have a passing resemblance to gigantic Terran centipedes, with wide, flat, segmented bodies and multiple legs. They have a sensory cluster at the front of the body and four manipulator arms below it. They are able to rear up into a vertical stance.

They are naturally adapted to warmer temperature ranges than Humans find comfortable, but prefer a slightly lower gravity and lower atmospheric pressures.

Physiology[edit]

Body pattern: bilaterally symmetrical non-humanoid HS-TB-AL-LL-N.

The average Zarodysh has a length of around 2.5 meters and masses around 120 kg. They can rear up, raising their front parts and remaining on their rear legs, reaching a typical height of around 1.3 meters.

The Zarodysh have generally poor eyesight, relying primarily on hearing, smell, and the ability to sense electrical and magnetic fields.

They prefer live prey.

Psychology[edit]

Zarodysh psychology is driven by factors common to many sophonts:

  • Acquisition (stemming from the need to gather adequate nutrition),
  • Preservation (derived from the need to continue their personal existence), and
  • Perpetuation (the urge to continue the species).

Zarodysh are considered sensitive, irritable, and aggressive.

  • They are noted as having an appreciation for music -- or unusual sounds -- of all kinds.

The Zarodysh inhabit the pristine forests of their homeworld, maintained, tended and preserved for countless millennia.

  • Anyone threatening their environment will face the most severe of penalties.

Demographics[edit]

The total known population equals 30 million individuals. They do not yet have a notable presence outside their star system.

Native Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 4 (harmonious)
  • Acceptance: 7 (aloof)
  • Strangeness: 1 (very typical)
  • Symbols: C (very abstract)

Local Technology[edit]

Zoloto possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

Local Government[edit]

Zoloto is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.

Local Law[edit]

Zoloto has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A world with this law level may be an Amber Zone or a Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. Travel documents are frequently checked. There is no legal concept of privacy (save for those who can claim necessity for official government business). The police are free to inspect anyone and anything at any time.
