Ursak is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Demon's Eye Subsector of Far Home Sector.
  • This world-system hosts a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces, which may be located on or off-world.

System Data[edit]

Kevlin-Ursak System[edit]

The primary is Kevlin, an ordinary yellow main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.886 Sols, a mass of 0.98 Sols, and a diameter of 1.391 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a trace atmosphere inner world, and (II) a vacuum worldlet. (III) Ursak is designated the mainworld and orbits within the habitable zone. (IV) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, (V) a large gas giant, (VII) a ringed small gas giant, (VIII) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (IX-I) a large gas giant, and (IX-II) a ringed small ice giant – orbital position (VI) is empty. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(III) Ursak[edit]

(III) Ursak is designated the mainworld. It orbits Kevlin at a mean distance of 0.67 AU (100.2 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 202 days 8 hours and a rotation period of 31 hours. The axial tilt is 22 degrees. Ursak has a diameter of 11,121 km, a density of 5.82 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.92 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Dense, with a mean surface pressure of 1.99 bar and a composition of 77% nitrogen (N2), 21% oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 89% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.35m. Mean surface temperature: 5°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Cool and experiences moderate seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and strong weather systems driven by the star and the oceans sweep across the globe.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 389 million km², Water surface area: 346 million km², Land surface area: 43 million km².

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Kevlin-Ursak System[edit]

Ursak, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (IV) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

World Starport[edit]

Ursak has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Technology Level[edit]

Ursak possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government[edit]

Ursak is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.

World Military[edit]

There is a squadron of fifteen Vigilance class Interceptors hidden somewhere in the system. These are obsolete TL–7 fighter craft, apparently purchased as surplus from a larger planetary navy. The proud purple, green and white color scheme stands out during low fly overs during military parades and demonstration functions. These pilots are all commissioned officers and they form an elite military unit. They are drawn from the finest families for the most part. They have some training in strafing ground targets with their LMG in a ground support role.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: A (Abundant)
  • Labor: 3 (Thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 1 (Extremely limited)
  • Efficiency: +1 (Average)

Trade Data[edit]

The vinyards of Ursak produce large quantities of wine. Most varieties are a reasonable vin de table, though a few vintages are considered to be excellent and command very high prices.

World Demographics[edit]

Population 89,000

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 6 (Harmonious)
  • Acceptance: 3 (Xenophobic)
  • Strangeness: 3
  • Symbols: 7
