Uiye is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is an unclaimed Non-Aligned world located in the Ikairleah Subsector of Touchstone Sector.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Uiye is a Small World between 4,000km and 5,600km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.24G and 0.34G. The horizon will appear about 3km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Uiye has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. This atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds, which requires the use of a Filter Respirator Combination Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Uiye has 35-45% of its surface covered by liquid water. There will be a number of small seas or one larger body of water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Mainworld Map[edit]

History and Background[edit]

Uiye is situated just beyond the Aslan Hierate border.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Uiye has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Uiye has a population of 600,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Demographics[edit]

The population is multi-species, primarily Human and Droyne with a sizeable Aslan minority.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The following languages are most commonly heard:

  • Anglic
  • Oynprith: A ceremonial and ritualistic language, apparently universal among Droyne communities.
  • Trokh: The universal language of the modern Aslan monoculture.
    • Aslan Languages: Note that some Aslan clans retain obscure or archaic languages for personal use in addition to Trokh.

Urbanization[edit]

There are three environment-controlled cities, with a central 'holy palace of governance' situated between them. Popular belief insists that the cities are arranged in a perfect triangle with the palace at the exact centre, but this is untrue. The cities are built on suitable ground with sufficient water -- their placement is practical, not mystical.

World Government (G)[edit]

Uiye is governed by a Religious Dictatorship. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy). There is a powerful independent organization, the state religion, which has influence or direct control of the government. Like the bureaucratic governments this may simply be a strong influence with a secular government, be direct influence by virtue of controlling who may be in the leadership, or be a direct theocracy where the church leadership and bureaucracy is the government.

  • The world religion is complex and very strict. The local Humans live carefully controlled lives. The exact roles played by the Droyne and Aslan are unclear to outsiders. It is claimed that the holy order of Uiye knows a great deal about the ancient history of the region and has gathered many secrets.

World Law Level (L)[edit]

Uiye has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A world with this law level may be an Amber Zone or a Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. Travel documents are frequently checked. There is no legal concept of privacy (save for those who can claim necessity for official government business). The police are free to inspect anyone and anything at any time.

World Technology Level (TL)[edit]

Uiye possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
