Palindrome is a poor, low-population world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts.
- This poor world is struggling to establish itself and living conditions in many areas are rudimentary.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Sindal Subsector of Trojan Reach Sector.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
This system is part of the Theev Cluster.
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Palindrome is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Palindrome has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Palindrome has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Palindrome could offer a jump-3 link across the centre of the subsector, but it is less important than Vume. It is a backwater, and its supposed B-class starport (constructed by General Development Corporation) is largely abandoned.
The port at Palindrome is notably anti-Imperial in outlook.
The planet itself was populated during the time of the Sindalian Empire, but its people left or died out after the Empire's collapse.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Palindrome has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
Note that this port is considered to be B-class "in name only"; it is now largely lacking in useful facilities.
World Population (P)[edit]
Palindrome has a population of 5,000 sophonts (thousands).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.
Urbanization[edit]
The one surface settlement of note is Astrogo, the fief of a former pirate, the self-styled Lady Yemar. She set up Palindrome as a clearing house for stolen goods and a waystation for travellers. She uses the profits to pay for her expensive life support needs stemming from an exposure to an experimental bioweapon. She has had her organs replaced multiple times and even her brain needs constant maintenance, which she travels to Theev to attend to.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Palindrome possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-2.
World Government (G)[edit]
Palindrome is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.
World Law (L)[edit]
Palindrome has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
