Niva is a low-population world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in size.
- This world has yet to take off economically or otherwise and the population remains low for reasons largely unknown.
- This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
- It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Aldebaran Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
Description / Astrography & Planetology[edit]
No information yet available.
System Data[edit]
The Niva system is binary system containing 2 M-class red dwarf stars, with the secondary being considerably dimmer than the primary.
Niva prime contains a large gas giant which has 2 potentially habitable moons, and the mainworld. Niva secondus has 3 rocky worlds in orbits that make them uncomfortable due to intense radiation storms.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Niva is larger than average rocky world at 0.125AU, the midline of the primary's life zone.
Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]
Niva is nearly a waterworld, with only a single, mountainous continent which overlaps the twilight zone. A large ice cap covers the cold pole.
The planet has active tectonic activity, and considerable vulcanism. Additionally, the large temperature differences between the difference sides of the planet results in intense wind flows and storms.
There is considerable ash in the thin atmosphere, but it contains a breathable percentage of oxygen. The ash, however, contains considerable amounts of radioactive isotopes from the ongoing volcanic eruptions, so a filter is strongly recommended. The frequent glowing storms of Niva are an intense experience.

World Starport[edit]
Niva has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
The Niva downport is located on the Twilight zone, about 10 kilometers from the startown and primary urban center, Nivus. The downport represents the lower-end of the definition of a Class-C starport. Most functions are automated, but some functions are not available or broken. There is a help station, but it is essentially a live-link to an office in Nivus. That said, the refueling function worked as advertised. Access to the repair bay is by arrangement, and while travellers can purchase common components a la carte, all work will need to be done by the craft's crew.
The downport does have an automated hostel which provides rooms with a single bed, sink, and shower. Frozen meals are available for self-preparation in a common seating area outside the hostel.
There is a automated rail connection that runs every 4 hours to Nivus, starting at 8-hour, and ending at 20-hour. This information is not posted or otherwise volunteered.
There is a secured area of the Downport. It appears to contains a Scout-class starship, possibly 2.
On the 3rd level concourse, there is a relatively impressive observation dome, approximately 30m in diameter which affords an excellent view of the surrounding 15km area, as the downport is in an elevated area.
World Technology Level[edit]
Niva possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
World Government[edit]
Niva is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
The head of government is dubbed "The Director", and is currently George Naviston. This role is significant in that he is responsible for administrating the downport and the Navi residential area. His assistant is called "Alissa"; no surname was offered.
The computer system appears to be a pair of older 2bis models, given the O/S signature that was observed.
World Law Level[edit]
Niva has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
World Military[edit]
The Director has access to a weapons vault with armor and laser carbines. The laser carbines are in fine operating condition.
World Economy[edit]
Nivus was apparently built to be a self-sufficient science station with the best automation available with 3-level redundancy.
Trade Data[edit]
The Director negotiates all trade, unless you can find someone else with whom to talk.
World Demographics[edit]
Humanity 100%
World Culture[edit]
The population appears to be made up of very individualistic scientists pursuing their own research. They appoint a Director as needed to handle the issues they don't want to deal with. The scientists appear to actively avoid each other, excepting for periodic "townhall" meetings called convocations. Topics can range from life support concerns, research advances, personal conficts, and news. The Director is typically visibly armed during these meetings.
Urbanization[edit]
Nivus is a small archology made of advanced concretes with its own fusion plant, and back up fission plant. It is attached to a simple rail station connecting it to the Downport. The rail line is contained in a reinforced transparent aluminium tube to protect it from the weather. Food is apparently produced in local indoor vertical farming arrangement.
