The Hufo of Fhohuss (Xaagr 1838) are a technologically advanced Minor Race with a non-humanoid appearance. They owe some of their development to being an opportunistic client race of the K'kree.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Hufo are a herbivorous non-humaniform Minor Race located outside the Two Thousand Worlds in the trailing barrens of Xaagr Sector.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Hufo were discovered by the K'kree in the centuries after their war with the Hivers. The expansionistic Crusade, despite having been officially ended by the war, took some time to wind down fully, and the core-trailing region of the Crusade was late in getting the news of the change. The branch of the K'kree Crusade known as the Night Watch, deployed along the Kirur Main to trailing of Kirur and eventually pushing beyond the main, found the Hufo during one of their last sweeps through the difficult low-stellar density areas of Xaagr Sector.

Already herbivorous, the Hufo found the K'kree Ultimatum easy to comply with, and thus avoided being eradicated. The Night Watch nonetheless found themselves with a dilemma. The Hufo were well beyond the territory they wanted to colonise and develop, and were difficult to reach due to the handicaps inherent to K'kree ships, but the Night Watch didn't want to squander potentially useful clients by simply walking away. As news of the "wall" of client states to spinward reached them, the Night Watch decided to emulate the idea. The Hufo were instructed to unify, and promised the stars.

When the Night Watch returned some sixty years later, they brought their other clients and the seeds of stellar technology, and instructed the Hufo to become both a lighthouse and a watchtower for their new masters. The Hufo readily agreed, and proved to be able learners. They would, over the next several centuries, take on shipbuilding, exploration, and the establishment of outposts parallel to the border of the Two Thousand Worlds, overseen by a few tenacious K'kree families and periodic visits from K'kree Space.

The Aeeki Xaagr ("Breakwater Vigil") grew and thrived for a thousand years before internal rumblings, a period of flagging support from the Night Watch, and continued logistics challenges brought down the endeavor. The Vigil was allowed to contract, then fail completely, leaving disused outposts behind in several dozen systems. The Night Watch and the Hufo came to an understanding after the collapse. While the Vigil would continue, it would do so strictly as patrols, and as a safe haven for the K'kree who came through the area.

The modern Hufo continue to honor this promise, for good or ill.
