The Derchon Anomaly Intercept Mission (DAIMISS) is a joint expedition being mounted by the Imperial Navy and the University of the Marches at Lunion (UML).

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Imperial Navy is providing the the decommissioned and extensively-modified patrol cruiser Mithrasia, while UML will supply the ship's crew and other expedition personnel.

The Mithrasia’s jump drives have been downgraded to J-1 in order to provide more space within the hull to store the fuel necessary to accelerate to a matching velocity of about 0.1C -- and then to decelerate for the trip back to Derchon. The "Mithrasia" will also be carrying a large volume of fuel in externally-mounted L-Hyd drop tanks that will be jettisoned as they are emptied.

In addition, the ship has been equipped with a powerful nuclear damper system capable of bathing targets within 1-5 kilometers with nuclear damping nodes that cause radioactive substances to shed neutrons at low velocities. It is hoped that this will reduce radiation levels sufficiently to permit investigation of the object by personnel wearing protective gear. Heavily-shielded remotely-operated vehicles (ROVs) will also be employed.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

It was formed at Lunion (Spinward Marches 2124) (UML) to intercept and study the object that was the cause of the Derchon Anomaly.

The UML contingent, headed by Dr. Ignazio Silone, will include cosmo-archaeolgists, xenologists, and historians as well as a large team of astroengineers.
