Cudin is a poor, nonindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is a member of the Unity of Sed in the Cradle Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.
Astrography and Planetology[edit]
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
Binary Solar System
System Data[edit]
Khadinor-Cudin System[edit]
The primary is Khadinor, a yellow subgiant star. It has a luminosity of 6.18 Sols, a mass of 2.64 Sols and a diameter of 3.562 million km. The inner system consists of (II) a dense stony planetoid belt, (III) an exotic atmosphere radworld, (IV) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, (V) a dense atmosphere stormworld – orbital position (I) is empty. (VI) Cudin orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (VII) a vacuum worldlet forms the outer system. Many of the worlds in the system retain satellites.
Khucha Subsystem[edit]
The companion is Khucha, a red main sequence star that lies approximately 2,860 AU from Khadinor. It has a luminosity of 0.004 Sols, a mass of 0.273 Sols, and a diameter of 414,000 km. (I) a vacuum iceworld forms its outer system. The world does not retain any satellites.
Mainworld Data[edit]
(VI) Cudin[edit]
(VI) Cudin is designated the mainworld. It orbits Khadinor at a mean distance of 2.9 AU (433.8 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 3 years 14 days and a rotation period of 44.5 hours. The axial tilt is 33 degrees. Cudin has a diameter 6792 km, a density of 5.26 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.51 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.65 bar and a composition of 68% nitrogen (N2), 31% nitrogen (N2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the high percentage of atmospheric oxygen. Approximately 24% of the surface is covered in seas and lakes of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.2m. Mean surface temperature: 43°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and strong weather systems driven by the star sweep across the surface. The climate is seasonal.
Satellites[edit]
Cudin retains two natural satellites, a very thin atmosphere hospitable world named Chrosus and a vacuum worldlet named Keppel:
- (VIa) Chrosus (UWP G231435-A, orbiting at 20 Diameters/136,000 km)
- (VIb) Keppel (UWP Y100000-0, orbiting at 55 Diameters/373,000 km)
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
Total surface area: 145 million km², Land surface area: 109 million km², Water surface area: 36 million km².
Native Lifeforms[edit]
The hot stormworld lying in orbital position (V) (within the H– region of the inner system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.
Cudin, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- Chrosus, Cudin's hospitable inner moon, has extensive native life, consisting of microscopic organisms, stromatolite-parallels and primitive flora that can be found in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
- A former member of the Corolian Jurisdicture.
World starport[edit]
Cudin has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World technology level[edit]
Cudin possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-2.
World government[edit]
Cudin is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.
