Boreal is a poor, non-agricultural, high-population desert world, with a billion or more sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

• This world has no free-standing water.
• It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
• Despite this world's industrial prowess, it remains poor. Some blame this on the high prices of food, which must be imported. Others blame the nature of a desert world. Whatever the reason, something needs to change in order for this world to prosper.
• The world serves as the subsector capital with the significant extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
• This is a "Puzzle" world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor.
• It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Boreal Subsector of Spica Sector.

Boreal has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
