Qlate is a nonindustrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.

  • The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Akigura Subsector of Yiklerzdanzh Sector.
  • It is a balmy tropical world, with a climate of high temperatures.
  • It is a system with an incorrectly classified primary star.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Qlate is a binary star system.

  • The primary is an orange main sequence.
  • The secondary is a white dwarf stellar remnant

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been partially surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.

  • It lies within the zones warmer inner H+ region
  • It receives higher levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Qlate is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Qlate has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Qlate has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.

Satellites[edit]

Qlate retains two small vacuum moons.

  • They orbit once every few weeks.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Abundant aquatic native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Misidentified Star[edit]

The primary star is listed on Imperial star charts as a white dwarf stellar remnant.

White Dwarf Stellar Remnant.jpg

In actuality it is an orange main sequence star.

A number of systems within the subsector have stars that have been given incorrect stellar designations on star charts, almost always being misreported as white dwarfs.

  • This consistent error appears to date back to the time of the Imperial First Survey.
  • Some authorities claim that it was a deliberate large scale effort to discourage interest in the region.

Ongoing study by the IISS has revealed the error, but this occurred after the publication of the Imperial Second Survey.

  • Verified data confirming the exact nature of the star would command premium prices.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Qlate has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Qlate has a population of 30,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Qlate possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Qlate has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.

World Law (L)[edit]

Qlate has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.
