History & Background (Dossier)
Horsepower (hp) was first defined as a unit of force on Terra prior to the foundation of the Terran Confederation. Technologists found horsepower useful as the concept of the Technology Level and standardized ideas about sophont society development began to take form[1].
Horsepower has been widely referred to as Beastpower following the end of the Rule of Man, though the two terms remained interchangeable throughout much of Imperial space. Beastpower as a term was officially adopted following the Solomani Rim War to avoid the use of specifically Terranocentric metrics[2] .
