Description (Specifications)

Winston class Light Cruisers are designed to operate alongside Stormbringer class Fleet Tenders. They carry enough fuel for two jumps, to allow them to keep pace with the Stormbringers. The vessel is built around a huge fusion power plant large enough to charge the big spinal mounted particle accelerator that runs the length of the ship's keel. The rest of its firepower is limited to turrets. Winstons are fundamentally gun platforms: they are slow and have little agility but punch far above their weight.

1.	Tonnage	The Winston class is constructed using a 15,000 Ton hull built in a flattened sphere configuration. The hull is fully streamlined, giving a good atmospheric performance assisted by its onboard gravitic systems. It is equipped with fuel scoops. The vessel has a sturdy retractable undercarriage, allowing surface landings. There are 10 airlocks located around the vessel. The cargo hold is accessed by large doors and has a loading ramp.
2.	Crew	164 personnel. 11 command, 47 engineering, 61 gunnery, 30 service, and 15 security. Staterooms: 84 double occupancy. Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems. There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel: individual sections of the hull can be sealed off. There are multiple emergency lockers.
3.	Performance	The vessel mounts a Jump-1 drive, a Maneuver-1 drive, and a Power Plant-9, giving performance of Jump-1 and 1-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 1. There is fuel tankage of 4,350 Tons, sufficient for two consecutive Jump-1s and giving the power plant four weeks duration. The engineering section has a main control room. Ladders, gantries and platforms give access to the machinery. The jump drive utilizes a lanthanum hull grid. The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4.	Electronics	The vessel is fitted with an efficient Model 4/fib computer: no backup computer is installed. There are multiple workstations and control points throughout the vessel. The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a sophisticated sensor array, and an avionics suite. It is equipped with a sophisticated ECM package.
5.	Hardpoints	150 hardpoints. The listed battery groupings are standard configurations for the class. Alternative battery groupings may be designated for specific missions.
6.	Armament	The normal weapons fit-out for a Winston class is: 1 Type J spinal Particle Accelerator. 20 triple beam laser turrets, typically grouped into two batteries of 10 linked turrets. 20 dual plasma gun turrets, typically grouped into two batteries of 10 linked turrets. 60 triple missile turrets, typically grouped into six batteries of 10 linked turrets.
7.	Defenses	The hull is not armored. 20 triple sandcaster turrets, typically grouped into two batteries of 10 linked turrets. The vessel is not fitted with screens or other passive defensive systems.
8.	Craft	The vessel carries no dedicated subcraft.
9.	Fuel Treatment	The Winston class is fitted with a fuel purification plant that can refine all onboard fuel in a few hours. It is operated and maintained by the engineering crew.
10.	Cost	The basic cost of the vessel is MCr18,402.783 Architects Fee: MCr184.028
11.	Construction Time	167 weeks (39 months) as standard. Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
