The Sath are a sophont species native to Ch'kaahi (Far Home 2836), on the very rimward trailing fringe of Far Home Sector. The Sath control the Sath Alliance, an interstellar polity.

Physiology

Sath are clear terrain walkers descended from omnivore Hunters. They are arid climate atmosphere-breathers.

Bilateral HBS-T-AN-LN-T (2 paired arms) (two paired legs)
Vertical torso, bony interior, blood fluids, scales, no distinctive weapons, hands

Sath are bilaterally symmetrical. The head contains the brain and the major sensory organs. They have a slender torso supported by two long legs, two arms ending in manipulator hands with four digits, and a small residual tail that assists with balance. Sath stand 1.5m high and weigh around 60kg. Their legs are relatively long and are habitually held in a crouched position - if a Sath were to extend its legs to their maximum length, it would stand more than 2 meters tall. They have a ‘tiled’ skin that is most often tan-coloured, though they may also be brown or green. Tile patterns indicate their general ethnic background.

Physically, Sath resemble Humans: they have a similar body shape with generally the same proportions and their senses function within the same broad range. They breathe a similar mixture of atmospheric gases and have similar nutritional needs. Sath can use human equipment but find it a little awkward to handle; the same is true for humans utilising Sath kit.

Senses

VHST--

  • Vision 16 (standard) – GBP (Green-Blue-Purple). Sath vision is very similar to that of humans, though it is shifted slightly towards the UV end of the spectrum.
  • Hearing 18 (slightly superior to humans). Sath aural perception is broadly similar to that of humans. They can hear sounds at frequencies from about 20 Hz to 25,000 Hz.
  • Smell 14 (slightly inferior to humans). Sath olfactory perception is broadly similar to that of humans. Their sense of taste is also similar.
  • Touch 6 (inferior to humans). The Sath's scaly skin is slightly less sensitive to pressure and texture.
  • Aware 0 (oblivious).
  • Life Perception 0 (oblivious).

Characteristics

A baseline Sath has the following characteristic ranges:

  • Strength 2D
  • Dexterity 2D
  • Vigor 2D
  • Intelligence 2D
  • Education 2D
  • Social 2D

Reproduction

Three genders FMN

Oviparous - Sath lay clutches of leathery eggs.

Sath have three sexes - relatively small males and females entirely focused on the production and raising of young Sath, and larger neuters - the vast majority of the Sath population - who maintain society and civilisation. Females lay clutches of 3–5 eggs in a hatchery, typically within a bed of fine sand located in a walled underground chamber. The development of eggs can be accelerated or retarded by factors such as temperature and atmospheric moisture content. The eggs and the hatchling Sath are attended by both males and females. Hatchlings are agile and mobile from the moment they break out of their shell and instinctively cluster together and hide until they are provided with food.

Life Stages

  • 0 Infant (Hatchling): 2 years.
  • 1 Child: 4 years.
  • 2 Teen: 4 years.
    • Career starts at age 10.
  • 3 Young adult: 3 terms (12 years).
  • 4 Adult: 4 terms (12 years).
  • 5 Peak: 1 terms (4 years). Physical aging begins (34+ years).
  • 6 Midlife: 2 terms (8 years).
  • 7 Senior: 2 terms (8 years).
  • 8 Elder: 1 terms (4 years).
  • 9 Retirement: 2 terms (8 years). Mental aging begins (62+ years).

Diet and Trophics

Omnivore Hunter.

Preference for aged meat. Will consume a variety of foodstuffs.

Psychology & Philosophy

Sath are ambitious and shrewd, members of a proud culture divided into Factions, competitive political, social and economic groupings. While petty rivalries dominate day-to-day affairs, Sath will quickly come together to overcome a common foe. They are, broadly speaking, as technologically advanced as humans and are striving to improve their degree of advancement. Much of their technology, including their jump tech, is derived from human devices.

Sath deeply resent their astrographic bad luck, in terms of being confined to the rimward-trailing quadrant of Far Home Sector and not having more empty systems around them to claim for themselves. They consider humans to be interlopers and chancers who have "stolen" worlds that rightfully belong to them.

Society & Culture

Generalised HASS values:

  • Homogenity: D (Fragmented)
  • Acceptance: 6 (Generally aloof). With regard to humans, their Acceptance is 2 (Very xenophobic)
  • Strangeness: 4 (Evolution of technology thru human origins, relatively familiar)
  • Symbols: F (completely alien, own culture and language and architectural styles)

15 billion within the worlds of the Sath Alliance and the area of Sath Exploration
